I was gonna point out that they could use mumflipping paper bags, but then I realized that paper bags underwater don't work so well.

A plastic bag around the flipper must be incrediby deadly to a dolphin, who are supposed to be one of the smartest animals in the world.

Humans can die from eating peanuts.

Intelligence doesn't determine deadly factors.

This is a good start. Right now, there is a "garbage patch" consisting of plastic pieces and plastic goo in the Pacific Ocean that's larger in area than the entire United States. There are plastic "icebergs" up to 100 feet deep in the middle of the ocean. This is not only killing off birds, but drastically altering the entire ecosystem.

Banning plastic bags is not a bad idea, but a better solution is to fund research efforts to mass produce biodegradable plastic at lower cost, or force manufacturers and grocery stores to buy these products. For example, all kinds of plastic can be made using the storage molecules of bacteria, including plastic bags for groceries, or higher density plastics for packaging. This plastic degrades in seawater within 20 days to form only CO2 and H2O.

Actually California outlawed plastic bags a few years ago due to landfill issues.

I live in Australia. My state banned plastic bags in 2007. It honestly hasn't made much of a difference because the shops sell you plastic bags rather than give them to you. Every other state in Australia besides the one I live in give plastic bags. So yeah, it really doesn't make a difference, it's just allowing companies to make more money. There has been little to no change at all in the environment as far as I know.

Over here in Wales we have to pay for our plastic bags. We have to pay 5p and sometimes 7p for a bigger one (in super markets). Although its only a measely 5p, I've noticed a lot more people have stopped using them, and bringing their own bags into the shops etc.

They already do. As of 6 months ago anyway, if you ever vacations there just have some reusable bags and you're fine.

All that plastic floating around the middle of the sea has become a renewable resource within itself. If someone were to develop a machine which degrades materials into the raw elements which made it up, we could have infinitely renewable oil and plastic going around.

350,000 tons of plastic, just floating about. One hell of a thing for recycling, I think.

I mean yea we could ban them and use something better for the environment, but the Food Lion near my house just got these kick-ass new blue plastic bags!

They banned them in the city I live them, biggest hassle ever! No one remembers to bring the cloth bags and the stores charge up to 3$ a bag. I work at a liquor store and we have plastic bags because of liquor laws and I don't see the problem with them I never see any on the street outside the store or in the downtown locations.
