You could, y'know, take it to a track?
#97 to #40 - itraxx (10/22/2013) [-]
Legally doesn't mean you can't do it.
If it's late at night and the highway is empty I've maxed out my car before at 150. If i **** up the only one dying is me, and I don't see this as any more dangerous than other ways of seeking thrills like skydiving or bungyjumping. I put myself at risk, but I make damn well sure that I do not endanger anyone else.
User avatar #41 to #40 - yamiyo (10/22/2013) [-]
Except on the Autobahn. I'm reasonably sure most of that doesn't have a speed limit. Then again you would have to get there first and if you're in another country... eh
User avatar #87 to #41 - themassivefail (10/22/2013) [-]
You won't get very fast on the autobahn. Trucks/lorrys and other road users use it like any other highway.
User avatar #197 to #87 - yamiyo (10/23/2013) [-]
Ah. I thought there was at least one lane meant for the lack of speed limit while the other(s) were for regular cars.

Unfortunately not :/ isle of man is way better lol
#22 - John Cena (10/22/2013) [-]
At least he's using it. I can't stand when people go out and buy fast cars like that then drive 10 below the speed limit.

well hey cmon, i have a 3000gt and i dont fly around because its my baby. i understand why some people have fast cars and dont drive fast
User avatar #69 to #33 - fukkentyranitar (10/22/2013) [-]
I'm planning on buying an R32 skyline. If I did, I'd drive on the highway regardless of whether it takes longer or not.
User avatar #8 - adu ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Not gonna lie, I've gone over 100 on the highway before, but only cause there was nobody in front of me for like a mile and I figured why the **** not. I've also gone over 80 in a 45 zone because there were no turns, lights, cars or people in front of me for about half a mile. I'm not an idiot, I know how to assess risks, sometimes though you just have nothing but straight road in front of you and nothing but a sign saying you can't.
User avatar #18 to #8 - abstract (10/22/2013) [-]
I've taken my VW Jetta up to 120 on the highway when there were no other cars in sight. I love going fast, but I make sure I'm always the only one around so that if I **** up, I'm the only one that has to get injured. I also don't get assholes that tailgate and speed through residential areas. My rule is that if someone in front of you is going the speed limit, then respect them for it since they are technically following the rules.

Not too much to tell really. It was the rookie initiation party at my university, and I was at drill (army reserves) so I couldn't drink on a saturday night.

Well, I get a call at 11:30pm from a rugby friend, screaming to get my car over to frat row, a kid needs an ambulance.

I show up maybe 2 minutes later, and there's a good friend of mine laying face down in the grass with bloody puke all over the place.

We get some towels set up (I like the car more than my friend), and I hit it on the freeway

My onboard computer said I averaged 130mph on the freeway, and I saw my speedo at 155 at one point.

I got him to the hospital, and they did all their medical mumbojumbo, and the nurse tells me if I were 2 minutes late, he would have been dead.

Which Mk is the Golf?
#114 to #108 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
I didn't know if you were talking about the Peugeot GTI. Its a Mk5 with exhaust work, intake and tune.
User avatar #115 to #114 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Ooh nice, a Mk5 GTI. How much power do you get out of it? I recon quite an amount.
#116 to #115 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
Ah yeah, they're peppy to start off with. But I'm seeing ~275bhp and ~305ft/bs.
User avatar #117 to #116 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Holy **** , 275!
How much does it weigh? If it's around a metric ton... boy, I bet it's quick as hell.
#120 to #117 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
Curb weight is 1350kg, so it theoretically does 0-60 in about 5 and a half seconds
User avatar #121 to #120 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
That's awesome.
Oh and I read the story in you #111 comment, it's very interesting.
Also the car looks very nice. But I thought the GTI comes with matching colour bumpers, not black?
#122 to #121 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
ah, not actually! but it is a very common thing for people to color match their bumpers and skirts. i'd rather not.
User avatar #125 to #122 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Right, well I thought otherwise. Not that it looks bad, but same colour is a bit prettier. I bet white is hard to keep clean?
#126 to #125 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
you don't know the half of it. As soon as I get decent coilovers I'm saving up for a metallic blue pearl wrap.
User avatar #130 to #126 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Isn't that the VW R32 colour? Or the Audi RS blue?

I'm wrapping my bonnet and roof to matte carbon fiber and painting my stock wheels black soon. Should look good in contrast with red.
#131 to #130 - ohmyjebus (10/22/2013) [-]
The R32/RS's color is technically called deep blue pearl. mine is more of this Lambo's color. Obviously better looking on the lambo of course
User avatar #136 to #131 - toncheky ONLINE (10/22/2013) [-]
Is that a wrap on the Lambo? Because if it is, holy **** , I didn't think wrap can look that good.
Also it's a very nice blue, I like pearl colors.

Germany.
User avatar #86 to #62 - themassivefail (10/22/2013) [-]
Isle of man is better. No limits except for in towns/villages, and very little traffic to contend with. A lot of people think the autobahn is this empty stretch of free road :/ it's just a highway without limits, semis/lorrys still use it, as do other people with slow cars. Average speed is still only around 110 kms/hr
User avatar #90 to #86 - ishalltroll (10/22/2013) [-]
I know, I live in germany. But that's why you overtake anyhow...
User avatar #91 to #90 - themassivefail (10/22/2013) [-]
Can't really over take many trucks on a dual carriageway :/
User avatar #195 to #91 - ishalltroll (10/23/2013) [-]
Trucks are meant to stay on the right lane out of the mostly 3.
User avatar #210 to #195 - themassivefail (10/23/2013) [-]
Although that is technically the way to do it, truckers can be dicks XD had one pull out in front of my mustang yesterday. Big rig 2 trailer gas trailer thing, i was pulling at least 130. still pulled right in front of me doing 90 :/ dick
User avatar #212 to #210 - ishalltroll (10/23/2013) [-]
Just flip them off and/or get in front of them and slow down a lot.
User avatar #213 to #212 - themassivefail (10/23/2013) [-]
he was over-taking another dual trailer, doing about 89. Took him an age to pass it, and having only two lanes, I couldn't legally get around :/

this is why I don't get why smart cars and stuff that can't go very fast get so much hate in the US, they can go the speed limit, what more matters?
User avatar #150 to #105 - reduxalicious (10/22/2013) [-]
You uh, You don't do much Freeway driving do you..what with the needing to power ahead to change lanes and the needing to get up to speed...or driving in the middle of no where..
User avatar #155 to #150 - smokingman (10/22/2013) [-]
We change lanes in Italy, too, and small hatches don't seem to have much of an issue with that.
User avatar #171 to #155 - reduxalicious (10/23/2013) [-]
I've been to Italy a few times, mostly in and around the Livorno area when I was on a Ro/Ro loading Fiats destined for the US, And the Livorno Aurelia, at least I think that's what you call your freeways, While they move fast, People tended to FOLLOW the speed limit--in the US it's cluster **** on the highways--No one follows the damn speed limit, there's people either doing 10 Over or 10 under--being in a underpowered Smart-car surrounded by 18 Wheelers is not how I wish to commute.
#118 to #105 - IamEllis (10/22/2013) [-]
mabey because I live in New England and I would like to at least be able to atleast get out of my drive way in the winter
User avatar #157 to #118 - missrainbowdash (10/23/2013) [-]
let's say gas is now 30 bucks a gallon, would you do it?
User avatar #182 to #157 - IamEllis (10/23/2013) [-]
currently its about 3 to 4 bucks a gallon so your scenario is unrealistic even if the prices were raised. And also no seeing as how many of them are ******* death traps. Besides, what you dont pay in gas, you pay in your elctricity bill from your house
User avatar #191 to #182 - missrainbowdash (10/23/2013) [-]
perhaps you have a point about the electricity, okay let's say this, a 4 cylinder car that's designed for max fuel efficiency but not power, also the smart cars have extremely hard shells, so you argument doesn't really hold any water on the safety issues.
User avatar #192 to #191 - IamEllis (10/23/2013) [-]
its really not all that efficient unless you just need to drive around town which isnt the case for most people who have long hauls to work. I've seen news stories and articles of SUVs getting in collisions with the cars we are talking about and they were wrecked
User avatar #132 to #105 - sketchE (10/22/2013) [-]
because **** the speed limit im going till my truck stops me
User avatar #133 - pulluspardus (10/22/2013) [-]
I wish we would up the speed limit a bit, because we're going to slow and we're still ways to go from "Light speed" why are we still so slow? to go from one place to the other takes hours, when it should be minutes.
User avatar #152 to #133 - smokingman (10/22/2013) [-]
Because there's 7 billions of us on this planet and car crashes are already one of the first causes of death in most countries that have a high number of car users.
User avatar #138 to #133 - ragingbrony (10/22/2013) [-]
Invent a car that can go that fast, while still being able to turn and stop safely to avoid fatal crashes.

Keeping in mind the average intelligence of people behind the wheel.

Then we'll consider it.
User avatar #139 to #138 - pulluspardus (10/22/2013) [-]
to evolve we have to take sacrifices , we can't go anywhere if we keep playing it safe.
#179 to #139 - wanicochil (10/23/2013) [-]
I don't want some ******** crashing into me when I'm obeying the speed laws as a "sacrifice" to evolve
I don't want some ******** crashing into me when I'm obeying the speed laws as a "sacrifice" to evolve
User avatar #140 to #139 - ragingbrony (10/22/2013) [-]
We also can't move that fast. We have to gradually get there
User avatar #143 to #140 - pulluspardus (10/22/2013) [-]
That's what I am saying. "up the speed limit"
User avatar #94 - dantemp (10/22/2013) [-]
To be fair 110 is not that big of a speed, especially on a highway, I've done it with a 40 year old mercedes on a road that barely fits two trucks. Still, the ***** funny/
