Manifest Destiny

Manifest Destiny is the American ideology that states that we're supposed to expand our nation across the planet. So, yes, it is a competition.

well not with other countries, it wasn't across the planet, it was to the pacific. some president said across the globe or something but that's stupid, nobody is trying to take over the world and if they are well then i have nothing to do with it.

Why is it stupid? America is flawed in many ways, yet we're still led to believe that we are the best country in the world. Isn't it natural to want your own country to dominate all other countries?

it's maniacal to want your country to dominate all other countries. America may or may not be "the best country in the world" whatever that means, but i say just live your damn life.

What I mean is that someone with the Manifest Destiny mentality would want all the countries of the world to be annexed onto the US, so that every bit of land was American soil. I don't mean dominate as in destroy those other countries, just gain control of them and govern them as we do our own land.

Is it bad?

not necessarily, in the long term at least, but that's only because countries tend to not stay under another country's control for very long especially now that countries that were controlled for a very long time (India;southeast Asia) are no longer third world countries.

in the short term, it only benefits the country that has taken over because they get to use all the resources.
