I hate government.
Not the US gov, not my country's gov, I hate and abhor the very idea and concept of government.

Is there a single thing more vile and repulsive on this world?
If so, I haven't seen it yet.

THen how do you stop an anarchy from becoming a Tyranny. The strong will always dominate the weak, the selfish attitudes of an unrestrained man is human nature.

First and maybe most important step is realising these freedoms are worth defending against anyone trying to rule over you.
Second is defending them against anyone trying to rule over you.

The days of the alpha male picking up a stone to smash the heads of his rivals before declaring himself leader of his tribe are long gone.

Have you ever heard of the number 4?

1) Nothing prevents me from teaming up with my neighbors up front to ensure security. Could turn the numbers quite easily.
2) Means fuck all to the buckshot in his chest.
3) On the contrary. A single firearm can wipe out a whole group of people within moments. I can use that to my advantage.
4) A modern pistol holds 14-17 reasons for them to run unless they don't value their lives at all. Chances are, they want to steal, not die.

Bottom line is, what the hell do I need a government for to ensure my own security?

Name anything that couldn't be done without government. Anything at all.

owning property.

(also traffic laws keep you safe in traffic, which are passed by the government)
User avatar #11240 to #11237 - techketzer (09/17/2012) [-]
Rights of ownership are basic, inalienable human rights.
The government has nothing to do with them even right now, except that it systematically violates them in form of taxes and fines.

No. Traffic laws are nothing but printed paper. People driving carefully are what keeps you safe. You don't need government for that, only proper education and training. All that can be done without any form of government.
User avatar #11254 to #11240 - cleverguy ONLINE (09/18/2012) [-]
government is not inherently violent, it is an organized way to set ground rules for society. im not sure you understand what anarchy means: no legal documents, no rules, no laws. i think you'll agree that punishment (which is not necessarily violent. in fact, most of the time it isn't) against criminals is much better than rampant violence everywhere against innocent people just for everyday necessities or land.

you're right that revolution is a viable way to stop a government that has stopped protecting the rights of the people, but, by definition, a revolution CHANGES government, it doesn't abolish it, because that wouldn't solve anything.

about traffic laws: obviously you missed my point: some people don't care about traffic laws or being safe on the road, even when laws are present. imagine if laws were not present.
User avatar #11251 to #11240 - cleverguy ONLINE (09/18/2012) [-]
reply cap so im replying to this one.

first: completely new kind of government: monarchy does not equal democracy

second: the government enacts concrete policies for crime and punishment: it is not abstract or "an idea." the point of laws is to keep reasonable order in society and keep those who would otherwise go against order and put others or themselves in harm's way out of society. some laws may seem like obvious moral things that one could easily fuction without, but they are there for your protection and the world would indeed be a VERY different place without them. why do you think every country isn't the same?

about traffic laws: ask a twelve year old if they want to drive your car and see if they care that they've never had driver's training.
User avatar #11253 to #11251 - techketzer (09/18/2012) [-]
1) The underlying principle is the same: monopolised violence.
2) Government is an idea. It is realised as an institution in our world, but at its core it is an idea just as freedom or justice is.
Laws are tools of the government, they are dictates that can be enforced with violence. They can be used, abused and re-purposed any way the government sees fit for whatever reason or no reason at all.
The only way to stop that process is violent revolution.

About traffic laws: Ask me if I would let a 12 year old drive my car without teaching them how to do it first.
User avatar #11244 to #11240 - cleverguy ONLINE (09/17/2012) [-]
you do realize that government enforcement of laws is what protects your inalienable human rights. that's why it is in the declaration of independence. The British GOVERNMENT wasn't protecting the rights of the colonists so they declared independence so they could form a new GOVERNMENT to protect those rights. without laws made by the government and enforcement of those laws with punishment your rights would not be protected.

people follow that "printed paper" because it is a law backed by threat of punishment. Who would take the time to educate themselves on safe driving if there was no threat of punishment for driving without a license?

User avatar #11249 to #11244 - techketzer (09/18/2012) [-]
Yes, that is the schizophrenia of political revolution.
"The old government turned into Leviathan, so we'll overthrow it and form a new one. Surely, it won't happen again."

Look, government is a concept. An idea.
It is the idea of letting somebody use violence to get his way and thinking you can control him to only fight for your cause, not for his own, when there is nothing stopping him from using the violence you gave him against you.
Government is fallacy and the seed of tyranny and dictatorship.

"Who would take the time to educate themselves on safe driving"
I would. You would. Everyone not wanting to die in an accident would.
User avatar #11139 to #11138 - teoberry (09/17/2012) [-]
the fact that no matter how many guns you have, you're fucked. no government, no jails, convict'll get out. no gun restrictions, people'll be buying guns straight off the street, no military or cops to keep order. face it, you have little chance of surviving anarchy, no one has a high chance unless you're potus, even then you're still fucked.

User avatar #11220 to #11176 - teoberry (09/17/2012) [-]
here's a reasonable argument about why we need government, point form because i'm very tired

1) anarchy: everyone is fucked when that happens, you and your guns (implying you have any) will be no match against poor people with better guns willing to get payback on the people who didn't help them

2) health care: once you get shot, google won't help you, you'll bleed out or die of an infection

3) power or heat: no one will bother to pay bills with no gov't, so companies will just cut if off

4) police/military: no law or order, see point 1

5) economy: stock'll crash and paper money'll be useless. you'll have to barter your stuff, and you're gonna get robbed 50 percent of the time
User avatar #11226 to #11220 - techketzer (09/17/2012) [-]
1) "poor people with better guns" - You contradict yourself right there. I can acquire weapons any way they can and more.
2) I need a doctor, not a government. Politicians don't heal people.
3) Companies won't suddenly shut down just because they no longer have to pay taxes. It will be a free market situation.
4) Voluntary militia. People looking out for themselves and their families and neighbors. That concept has kept mankind alive for tens of thousands of years already.
5) No one forces me to make a trade I don't want to make.

You're just making these up as you go, don't you?
User avatar #11309 to #11226 - PrismaLowell (09/18/2012) [-]
sounds like you want everybody to form tribes and look after each other, and there will be rules of sorts, and those rules will be decided by the whole of the tribe, and everybody will have a say in these new rules, right? Hmmmm sounds like a small direct democracy if you ask me, or in other words, A GOVERNMENT.
User avatar #11318 to #11309 - techketzer (09/18/2012) [-]
You're making an unholy mess of this.

I want people to live free and in self-determination, without coercion an violence. Nothing else.

If that "government" isn't granted a monopoly right of legitimate violence along with an military or police force it's not a government but some sort of cultural/ethical standard that cannot be enforced.
Get your definitions straight.
User avatar #11260 to #11226 - teoberry (09/18/2012) [-]
you seem to give a fuck, you were pretty razzed.

1) no governemnt = anarchy
anarchy = loss of peace
loss of peace = theft and murder

companies do not want people looting their products from stores, so they'll stop sending shit out to stores. people will not buy stuff. banks will have no reason to use 'private currencys'

2) the roads are about healthcare, idiot. if there are no ambulances, even if there are, clogged roads = no place to get treatment. pay attention

3) drugs would be a good currency in those times

4) i said they might do odd jobs to trade, but not invite each other into their homes and let them mooch lrn 2 read

5) i'm saying you're delusional, if you want to act like government could sudddenly dissapear one day, then by all means start hoarding guns and cans of beans. have fun losing contact with people while you're at it.

without government, millions of people would try to kill each other because they can. look at somalia, in the 90's and early 2000's. no gov't = total shit. mao and stalin came from bloody revolutions, it's not like many people really wanted them. hitler was less bloody but you and him share a common trait = delusion.
User avatar #11248 to #11226 - teoberry (09/18/2012) [-]
for your most recent one. you've replied to them all, but never acknowledged or shown proof you're not 12 and no gunz.

1) drugs, private currency's won't mean shit to the people selling the private weapons, they want stuff they can use (like i said, drugs, even people)

2) no red cross where i come from, so idk. but the roads'll still be fucky.

3) see number 1,

4) people will act in there own interest, not bothering to help others. they may trade, they might do odd jobs, but people will only GAF about them and their family, not neighbours or strangers.

5) see my opening comment

to end this, since none of us really want to continue, cleverguy is clever. you're delusional, you don't realize how much the government actually does for you. they've gotten us in, and out of depressions, they've stopped wars that could've changed the face of this planet, they killed one of the most dangerous men here, and if gov't never existed, we'd be using shit that people used in the 20s and 30s, because of no gov't funding and shit
User avatar #11252 to #11248 - techketzer (09/18/2012) [-]
Maybe because I don't give a fuck what some idiot on an imageboard might think of me? That ever crossed your mind?

1) Come back once you understand what a market is.
2) The government doesn't build roads. It issues contracts to private companies.
3) See 1).
4) You mean they care and help each other now? I hadn't noticed.
5) Give me a single reason I should live my life like you think is best. A single one.

You're delusional. The state meddling with economy is responsible for ever depression there ever was. Without government, there would be no way to get millions of people to try and kill each other. Mao, Stalin, Hitler, the most dangerous men there ever were were all heads of government.
And neither you nor I can imagine how advanced our technology would be if the government could stop stealing money from companies (actually their customers, but they lower their revenue all the same).
#11239 to #11226 - teoberry (09/17/2012) [-]
replying to this because i can't to the other one.

1. you're not going to build an arsenal, you're no gunz and 12, and the one part of economics that will get better is illegal weapons. criminals will snatch those up, paying with stuff that's useful (drugs, manpower), considering there would be no governments, so no one would want money.

2. you may be able to pay the doctor, but how are you going to get there without ambulance if you get shot? sure, you'll get a ride, but road'll be clogged with people getting the fuck outta dodge and people trying to steal from you.

3. it's not like life will continue as normal if there were no government. and it's the gov't that prints the money, at least where i'm from. no mint, no money.

4. quite frankly, do you think everyone will try and work together to make peace? no, people will think for themselves, it's human nature. and the people who wouldn't think like that are missionaries and the like, who object to using weapons.

5. you won't have an arsenal, you'll get robbed.

to sum everything up: you're trying to act edgy by saying 'oh we don't need government', and you think you're cool by saying 'i have guns i'm such a tank i'll kill everyone', when actually you'll kill someone, get PTSD, and kill yourself. you're not a hardass, you're 12 and are acting cool for the internet. i got better things to do, so i may not reply to the next post.

1) If they're poor and I am rich, I can afford better weapons than them.
2) But you do realize the Red Cross is not a government-run organisation?
3) Where I live, there are great concepts of private currencies popping up all over the place. One of those would become predominant standard if government was abolished.
Very little would change.
4) People will act in their own interest and therefore, will often need the help of others, who in turn will often need help themselves. A market situation would develop.
5) Ever wondered why I never felt the need to reply to your stupid little insults and assumptions?
User avatar #11230 to #11226 - teoberry (09/17/2012) [-]
1) they have illegal weapons, they know places to get those types of guns, you can't. plus, we both know you're nogunz. knock it off

2) do you really think doctors will still continue to help people for free? they'll need to barter, but then again, kids like you would get discounts

3) money will be useless, why keep on selling stuff?

4) that shit happens in movies. most likely it'll be every man for himself, as most people will assume if they let people in, they'll steal shit

5) i mean they'll invite you to trade for something you need, then rob you. nothing you can do, as i've said in several other posts, you're no gunz.
User avatar #11233 to #11230 - techketzer (09/17/2012) [-]
1) There are no illegal weapons once there are no more laws. Nothing stops me from building a fucking arsenal if I think it's necessary.
2) I'd save much more in not paying taxes than paying the doctor myself. I'd go for that deal any day. Plus, health insurance can be made with a private company as well.
3) Currency is not tied to government. A single private bank could establish an international standard.
4) Yes, in movies as well. Humans building a society is the rule, not the exception.
5) That doesn't make it true. See 1).
