I never really understood this; I know that Redshirts tend to die off frequently, but...why?

And what is the point of coloured shirts anyways, do they represent something?

I think I read in some article how red shirts were actually not the most frequent to die, just if you were some no named crew member you were probably ****** still.

The red shirts are basically nameless cannon fodder who die to emphasize the danger that the mane characters are in

They generally showed how dangerous something was by dying horribly. Sort of like how Worf showed how badass an enemy was by getting his ass kicked constantly.
When you lose a fight to an overweight old man, you don't get to call yourself a badass warrior anymore.

The guys in red were operations, security and engineering.
Blue was science, and Gold was Command.
So the redshirts were the grunts, and we all know who gets ****** over in general...

Thank you very much. I've been asking that question for a long time and for some reason nobody has ever given me a straight answer.

Actually, Being of a gold or blue shirt was statistically more deadly then a read shirt. Red shirts mad up about 95% of the crew and only 82 % of the fatalities if I remember correctly.

I never got this scene from BB. How does Walt die/get srsly injured himself? I mean he basically threw that thing at his own feet.

He's in the middle of the room. The only thing hitting him would be the force of the blast any anything that has bounced off a wall and all the way back to him. There is always the "it's a tv show" explanation too.

Not to mention that the actor could have very well died considering he was not only at the beaches of Normandy during D-Day, but he was also shot six times by his own side.

(Or I think so at least, correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm reasonably certain he's either missing a part of a finger, or the whole thing too.

I watched the first episode of Star Trek Continues last night. It's a crowd sourced attempt to continue the remaining 2 years of the 5 year mission that Kirk and his crew were originally on. At first it was very strange with the different actors but by the end of the episode it had a genuine feel of the real thing. It helped a lot having Grant Imahara from Mythbusters play Sulu, Scottys real son playing Scotty, and Dianna Troy voicing the computer. Honestly it will never obviously be as great as Shatner and Takei but the whole thing feels very lovingly done and true to it's origins.
