I've said this before, will give short version again.

This is only partially true. In one multi-year study, adoption occurred less than 10 times. And it only occurred if the adoptive mother (adoptive dam) was a close relative, so close in fact, that it was either a sister dam of the original mother who left or was a daughter of the original dam. It also only occurred if the dams' territories directly bordered one another. In all cases only one pup was adopted, and litters often contain a few more than 1. In cases where all the conditions were right (closely related dams, bordering territory), adoption still only occurred about 10% of the time.

The vast majority of the time, adoption did NOT occur. Squirrels couldn't care less.

Do you like kittens? YOU WILL LOVE THIS FACT. Squirrels can not carry the baby back up the tree if they fall so if it a stormy spring you get more kittens bc cats have the extra food from the fallen squirrels.

"a squirrel" is also a word referring to girls vagina in Latvian (vāvere).. imo somewhat less disturbing than "a beaver".
