2112/160,000 = x/100,000 (cross multiply)
2112 x 100,000 = 211,200,000
160,000 x (x) = 160,000x......that gives you
211,200,000 = 160,000x
divide by 160,000
1320 = x......so 1320 per 100,000.
note: the / sign means over. Like in a fraction.

That 60 per 100,000 given above is per month. According to Forbes Magazine the most murderous city of 2006 is Detroit with 418 murders. But that comes out to less than 4 murders per 100,000 residents per month.
