can someone tell me the reason of religion? what i think it is is a bunch of stupid people looking for someone to tell them what to do. am i wrong?
User avatar #65 to #35 - sircool (07/25/2010) [-]
so to you it's stupid to believe that some thing sentient created everything other then a random events and eventually life being created for no purpose what so ever. neat story bro
User avatar #155 to #65 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
Random events? What random events do you speak of?
It's not stupid to believe in a sentient creator, but what is tupid is to base your life and attitude around something you believe is true because you were told it was true, contrare to evidence. it is foolish to believe in something when it flies in the face of evidence, common sense and out of fear.
But hey, everyone's entitled to believe in whatever the hell they want, and shouldn't be persecuted for it unless it causes them to commit crimes.
#99 to #65 - strungsword (07/25/2010) [-]
i believe in science, and also the fact that ppl look to others for guidence. thats what seperate followers from leaders, and alsol give way to coruption. even in realigion.
User avatar #157 to #99 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
Also, "...life being created for no purpose what so ever..."
What the hell are you even talking about?
#159 to #157 - strungsword (07/26/2010) [-]
i believe that life was created by chance, but that doesnt mean a diety couldnt exist. for all i know a god couldve created the universe 14 billion years ago, but then again that theroy would be flawed because the bible states that god created the earth in 7 days. though it more believeable that a diety created the universe 14 billion years ago than a person writing something that he thought was true, and millions of people believe in.
User avatar #160 to #159 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
That comment was meant for SirCool, but anyway!
What do you mean when you use "chance" in this instance?
#161 to #160 - strungsword (07/26/2010) [-]
well, i would liek the word "luck" more because everything had to come in order for the world to be created.
things like: earth being the right distance for it not to me too hot or too cold
all the rigght molecules coming together to form the elements, animals, and everything we see and touch.
stuff like that. chance or luck are 2 words that desribe that well/
User avatar #162 to #161 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
It wasn't luck that created life...
That's like saying it's luck that Hydrogen bonds with Oxygen and by chance creates Oxygen.
Earthdidn't come together the right distance, life adapted to conditions. There are organisms that live in horrible conditions (temperature etc), akin to other planets. There are also suspected fossils of bacteria on other planets within our solar system.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic here, but it was the elements that bonded to form molecules... Sorry!
#163 to #162 - strungsword (07/26/2010) [-]
i;m just gonna stop posting this stuff because its getting to boring
User avatar #158 to #157 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
Sorry, wrong comment!
#59 to #35 - NanoBob (07/25/2010) [-]
i'd agree with you but i fear the red thumbs,
...must...assimilate...must...be...confomist.
*help me*
User avatar #54 to #35 - TheFreak (07/25/2010) [-]
Religion was first created as a way to explain the world when science couldn't. It also explained life after death and provided rules to give order to the average person's life, such as do not kill, rape, marry more than one person, etc. Finally, it gave them an all powerful (albeit imaginary) deity to pray to for hope, strength, food, etc.

Now you know.
User avatar #47 to #35 - yourbestfriend (07/25/2010) [-]
that's not what religion is religion is people coming together to worship and follow the being who created everything as we try and find the meaning of life even though i respect your opinion don't demean my beliefs because they are not the same as yours
#50 to #47 - doomshock (07/25/2010) [-]
that mostly sounds like Christianity.
User avatar #51 to #50 - yourbestfriend (07/25/2010) [-]
how does that sound like only christianity it sounds like all religion the difference in religions is usually the messiah or their god(s) it is mainly the same general beliefs but there are a few that are different
#42 to #35 - anonymous (07/25/2010) [-]
yes u are wrong
User avatar #41 to #35 - MRGamer (07/25/2010) [-]
As I have understood, it is simply the human need for answers to things that cannot be easily answered. Of course, this being thousands of years old when the human race was no smarter than dirt.
#45 to #41 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
Then go ahead and fill in the answers.
User avatar #63 to #45 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
You haven't posed any questions.
#68 to #63 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
I was obviously talking about the questions of reference...
User avatar #69 to #68 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
There are no questions directed towards Mr. Gamer.
With that in mind, 'banana', 'monkey'& 'tectonic activity' can all be answers.
#71 to #69 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
Okay then here's an example: How did the universe come to be?
User avatar #74 to #71 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
The leading theoretical model is that our Universe was born from the expansion of a singualrity.
There are also other theories, such as the mult-verse theory and the infinite universe (cycle) theory.
#92 to #74 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
Which one do you believe personally?
User avatar #93 to #92 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
Personally, I am undecided presently. However, I swing towards a combination of the expansion (big bang) and multi-verse.
#103 to #93 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
But something had to be present to start that, didn't it?
User avatar #108 to #103 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
Like what?
Something that consciously started it?
Or just something that started it, unconsciously?
#109 to #108 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
Either way. It wouldn't be logical if it came from nothing.
User avatar #111 to #109 - Daemonseed (07/25/2010) [-]
What if the Universe is in an infinite cycle?
And why would it be illogical to think it could have came from nothign?
#133 to #111 - AgentFBI (07/25/2010) [-]
If it's an infinite cycle, then you got me there. At least it makes more sense than the big bang theory though... because coming from nothing just doesn't make sense. HOW would it have come from nothing?
User avatar #154 to #133 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
I just copped what your post said there...
The Big Bang theory does not posit our Universe coming from nothing. The only thing that hypothesises that our 'current' Universe was created ex nihilo is religion, not science.
Religion states that everything in this universe came from nothing.
User avatar #152 to #133 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
If the Universe isn't infinite, then either way it came from nothing.
#164 to #152 - AgentFBI (07/26/2010) [-]
Technically nothing either way, but it's more logical to think that God created it from nothing instead of it just coming from nothing on it's own.
User avatar #165 to #164 - Daemonseed (07/26/2010) [-]
Then you would have to explain where/ how your God originated.
#167 to #165 - AgentFBI (07/27/2010) [-]
God is God, He wasn't created. Since there was no time just like there was nothing, He was always there. "He was always there" is hard to wrap your mind around, but less so when you consider that there was no time.
User avatar #168 to #167 - Daemonseed (07/27/2010) [-]
That is a cop out.
It is illogical if you then say that our Universe could not have came from nothing by itself.
#44 to #41 - strungsword (07/25/2010) [-]
so, stupid people looking for someone to tell them what to believe?
User avatar #46 to #44 - MRGamer (07/25/2010) [-]
Pretty much. But its open for debate. Anywho, religion is too touchy anymore.
#49 to #46 - strungsword (07/25/2010) [-]
i'll agree with u on that one. +thumb for u
