Just out of curiosity, where did the thought of superheroes come from?
User avatar #99 to #71 - braddlesxp (09/26/2013) [-]
Hero = omg he saved me from a car crash
Super Hero = omg he saved me from a car crash with his superpowers

#103 to #99 - lovecranes (09/26/2013) [-]
Hm. Is there such thing as 'super powers?'
User avatar #104 to #103 - braddlesxp (09/27/2013) [-]
powers

powers for a superhuman
superpowers

Superheroes came from Superhuman, someone that has abilities that excel above normal people
and if you're going to ask a ******* retarded question like what is super, go search it up
#105 to #104 - lovecranes (09/28/2013) [-]
Well, I thank you for the explanation.

Super Heroes>Myths>Normal Heroes?
#81 to #80 - lovecranes (09/26/2013) [-]
So, who would be considered a hero in our society? I see someone like Mohandas Gandhi or Nelson Mandela or Jane Adams as heroes from our society. I am not sure where the idea of 'Batman' or 'Spiderman' came from. It obviously has to be from some kind of myth, but which one or what kind?
User avatar #82 to #81 - themurp (09/26/2013) [-]
Someone's like "I need to make a superheroes." He sees a spider. "Aww **** ***** , spiderman."

Concept of heroes-> Odysseus does some **** . "Dat ****** cool, bet he could like, slay demigods or some **** ." Writes The Odyssey. Later. "Dis **** boring, Odysseus would be super cool if he could shoot eye lasers and fly." Superman.
#84 to #82 - lovecranes (09/26/2013) [-]
Starting to get a vague idea. Only one correction/addition to make to your description. Home wrote The Odyssey. He was a blind poet and he wrote the epic by listening to stories because he was a pilgrim. Sorry. I didn't mean to go into such detail.

Yeah, I know bout Homer.
#86 to #85 - lovecranes (09/26/2013) [-]
Well, everyone knows about Homer. In any case, I apologize for the repeated fact.
User avatar #87 to #86 - themurp (09/26/2013) [-]
No problem. I think superheroes come from human desire for there to be another level to reach for and admiration of people 'heroes' that overcome limitations and surpass reason. Same as stories of fantasy lands and future technologies. A hope for thing that aren't but we would like if they could be. A desire for the greater and the impossible but still relatable.
#88 to #87 - lovecranes (09/26/2013) [-]
That's an excellent explanation! I think superheroes is also a way for the humans to dive into a ******* of the fantasy world where everything would be perfect and they could control everything, rather than being told what to do or say in the "real world." Humans fantasize a lot, and we never really have the chance to appreciate our own technological advancments and new innovations.

Actually, I don't think so. I'm no expert, but I believe he's solar powered... or a plant.... or something....

So essentially as long as he can get to yellow sunlight, he can't starve.

*roll x* where "x" is the number of digits you want, up to a maximum of 9. dubs would be *roll 2*, for example

So, if superman could fly fast enough that he went back in time (the movie where he flies around the outside of earth, and it appears to be spinning backwards and reversing, would physically be explained by him breaking the speed of light and thus he's travelling in reverse through time, rather than actually spinning the planet backwards), why couldn't he go back in time far enough that he could travel to his planet before it exploded and save his parents?

I'm not well versed in superman canon, so there's probably a huge flaw in my theory, but at first thought it made sense to me.
User avatar #23 to #20 - mitchr (09/25/2013) [-]
The bit where it blows up anyways and he changes history, causing everything he had done for humans to be undone.

Yeah, let's not do that.
#25 to #23 - skyelinesunrise (09/25/2013) [-]
well it would blow up anyways, but what if he could save his parents and bring them to Earth with him, and then just re-do everything he's done for humans (this time with the help of his parents)

Or would it cause him to de-age and become a baby if he went that far back? Physics says he would age, but movie logic can always be wacky.
#31 to #25 - dontknowmeatall (09/26/2013) [-]
The reason of Superman's moral and principles is mostly his childhood with the Kents, a good couple of farmers who thought him good and evil. Kryptonian principles and Human principles could disagree in crucial facts, giving him a different nurture and thus altering his perception of the world. Remember that Kryptonians are trained to be scientists or soldiers from a very young age, and those aren't two groups that have much consideration for life, compared to Superman (A scientist or a soldier would sacrifice a few to save the many, and considered the dead colateral damage, while Superman always looks for the way to save everyone). He could've had turned into someone completely different, and maybe not the hero we know, but a military leader.

That gif would have a lot more weight if it was canon, if superman was actually trying to fight, a 1v1, and if the writer of that comic wasn't a total batman fanboy. But it's not, so........

Yet that doesn't matter, whether or not this is canon, what is canon is that batman has taken down the entire justice league before. Superman included.
