UPDATE: GTA 5, after 3 days, surpasses Indonesia's GDP for 3 days.

I don't think it's fair to compare movies to video games. Movies are $10 a person while video games are $60

but at the same time.. if say a husband, wife, and their kids go to the movies thats atleast $30.. with a video game its one per family.. unless you have kids that hate each other and dont share.. which is the case in my house but i actually buy all my own games so i dont have to share hahah

movies=$10 for 2 hours
games=$60 for 10-100 hours
movies are more expensive

$91 million * 6 = $546 million. Still less than GTA V.

Meanwhile many games have more than 1.5-3 hours of entertainment.

...but it is fair to compare a video game to a:
- console
- ship
- museum heist
- lottery jackpot
- countrie's gdp
- pair of buildings
anyway, I liked this post, puts things a bit in perspective.

And yet videogames aren't considered art. Sadly...
User avatar #23 to #9 - snowshark (09/23/2013) [-]
Also, they've always been considered 'art' because I could **** on a duck and it would be art. The quarrel has always been "Are Video Games High Art?"

Which they are. They just are.
User avatar #22 to #9 - snowshark (09/23/2013) [-]
Yes they are. There are museum exhibits already in art-museums.

It has now sold over a billion $$$
User avatar #7 - fjisforfgts (09/23/2013) [-]
It cost 280m to make the game, incase anybody didn't know.
User avatar #10 to #7 - soupkittenagain (09/23/2013) [-]

I see. Well they don't have to worry about that. They've already made $1 billion in 3 days.
User avatar #14 to #7 - xnaitomea (09/23/2013) [-]
it was actually 170m
User avatar #15 to #14 - fjisforfgts (09/23/2013) [-]
170m in pounds, 273m USD
User avatar #16 to #15 - xnaitomea (09/23/2013) [-]
you're pretty good fjisforfgts.
User avatar #17 to #16 - fjisforfgts (09/23/2013) [-]
You're not so bad yourself, perhaps.
User avatar #18 to #17 - xnaitomea (09/23/2013) [-]
thanks.
#21 - John Cena (09/23/2013) [-]
fun game for sure, but I am yet to decide if it deserves THAT much profit
#6 - Sampsy (09/23/2013) [-]
The game has been in development for years. It isn't like all that value was created the moment it launched.
User avatar #8 to #6 - dtox (09/23/2013) [-]
except it's not very often that a game being developed for a long time is of great value, or does very well at all.
