Well it isn't all bad.

**** you, OP. You just reminded me that I have an essay due.

...Actually, I think I could use some help on this. I'd hate to ask for it from anybody, but I figure a short-answer "survey" would really help out.

I'm working on a persuasive essay. So, how do you guys feel about the act of bullying, and what changes would you make to impede it?
User avatar #47 to #38 - newforomador (09/23/2013) [-]
Well, one thing I would do is make the punishment more severe for bullying. Right now (in my school at least) bullying just gives you one or two days detention the first time, second time is ISS, third is OSS. At least, I think that's how it is.

I may be in High School, but I am doing College English, maybe I can help, if you'd take it...

OF: wow everyone whos replied to your comment seems more interested with trying to find reasons to berate you for writing an essay or show off that they can write a longer essay than actually answering your question.

OT: I think bullying is a real problem but I dislike the way the world has been handling bullying by simply expanding the definition to fit things that really aren't bullying like secluding people. Bullying is when someone uses use "superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants." just because someone doesn't invite the quite kid in the corner who never talks to anyone to any parties doesn't mean they're bullying him. Hell even **** talking isn't really bullying and anti bullying campaigns preaching that IMO aren't really going to help drop the suicide rate caused by social exclusion which is in and of itself caused by the fact that we are living in larger and larger communities and it's becoming harder and harder to find excuses to socialize with people their age.

TLR bullying is a problem but it's not the problem that we're making it out to be and IMO we would be better served dedicating some of our attention aimed towards getting rid of bullying towards finding ways to get our children into a comfortable environment where they can play and socialize with each other.

I apologize for replying late.

@OF: Well, you're right, but I really like looking at the statements differently. It's really cool, because while the statements hadn't answered my question, they gave me some new insight on how to get this paper done. I honestly appreciate any help or offer.

@OT: Thanks a ton for answering, man. This reply gave me new things to think about when writing this damn inconvenient paper.

Well, I expected tons of hate in the beginning for asking for help, but it doesn't hurt to try, right?

I really appreciate all the assistance. You guys have honestly brought me one step further to completing this, and many more to come...ugh.

Have a good ************* day, guys.

Also hate the ******** they spread about "just walking away".

Don't walk away, punch their nose in. Even if they continue beating you up harder they're gonna find someone else who won't put up a struggle if you keep making things tough for them. Bullies see silence as victory...

If you meant I was berating him or showing off, I wasn't. I was asking if he wanted my help, and letting him know that I was only in high school but that I still have some idea of what is required.
#49 to #46 - amuzen (09/23/2013) [-]
Not you I'm talking about the guys who felt it necessary to ask if "this is a college level essay or one of the 5 paragraph horse **** " and the guy who felt it necessary to try and one up him by talking about how many more words he has to write in his essays.
User avatar #50 to #49 - manwithmanynames (09/23/2013) [-]
Oh, okay. Thanks for explaining good sir

As I said in the comment above, I really appreciated the help. It's cool though, I've been able to do enough research to be able to finish this paper, as well as the help of you guys.
User avatar #39 to #38 - myfourthaccount (09/23/2013) [-]
Is this a college level essay or one of the 5 paragraph horse **** they assign in high school which will probably only get you an F in college?
User avatar #40 to #39 - legacywolf (09/23/2013) [-]
College level, sir. 750-1000 words, though I plan to exceed that.
User avatar #41 to #40 - myfourthaccount (09/23/2013) [-]
Hmm let's see. I just wrote a 20 pager in 5 hours so 1000-2000 words should take you about 1 hour or so. You got time depending on where you live. Mine was on Dewey's and Gardner's essays though, ************* are tough. Anyway as for your topic it would help to know who your audience is, and from what perspective are you writing it, seeing as it is a persuasive essay. Plus there are different approaches one would take if he was a student being bullied, or a professional trying to help those who are being bullied or working to prevent it you know

20 pages... on what?
User avatar #64 to #52 - myfourthaccount (09/23/2013) [-]
Ever read John Dewe's Learning in Education and Howard Gardner's Designing Education for Understanding?
Well they pretty much bash the current education system and say it doesn't really teach anything that is supposed to inspire creative thinking and knowledge making so they propose whole new educational system.
Although I did agree with them that elementary and secondary educational system are completely useless now because all they teach is how to take tests and how to please the teacher, I argued against their proposed systems. And believe me 20 pages is feels like nothing when you can turn everything they said against them.
User avatar #48 to #41 - legacywolf (09/23/2013) [-]
I mean, you're right, it will be easy to write this paper. I've done plenty of persuasive essays. Might be even easier for you if you really have to complete essays 5 times longer.

I'm prompted to call to action what changes should be made to impede these acts of bullying, and to be specific as to who needs to make the change and what the changes should be, so it's probably from my own perspective(which made me realize it was a bit inconsiderate asking for help, but my intention was requesting some opinions against bullying). That being said, the audience is basically any reader.
User avatar #65 to #48 - myfourthaccount (09/23/2013) [-]
Ah **** man sorry I didn't reply earlier, I fell asleep. This is too late now probably but since it's from your perspective, you could use some examples of bullying you've witnessed, and how to go about preventing them or solving them as they occur. Then generalize the situations in your conclusion.
User avatar #66 to #65 - legacywolf (09/23/2013) [-]
It's all good, yo. I actually looked over the prompt again and realized the rough draft isn't due for 4 more days.

I planned to write about bullying as I see it, but you gave me ideas to use examples of bullying I've witnessed. I thank you, sir.
