I remember when I taught my brother how to fix computer problems.

Me: Okay, what's the problem
*he told me
* I typed it in to google
*and hit enter
Me: That's how you find the fix.
Brother: ...
Brother: THAT'S IT?! YOU JUST GOOGLE IT?!
Me: Yep.
Brother: oh.

Few weeks ago my gf gives me a phone saying her mom needs a technical question answered
So I prepare myself for questions like this and pick up
Answer her mom had "I have PCLinuxOS 07.2013 and every ISO I have is coming up with bad checksums. What should I do?"
I sat there for about 10 minutes then said "Adopt me."

>Grandma calls for tech support
>Can't figure out how to change wallpaper
>I keep telling her to "right click" the image she wants
>She insists it's not working
>Half hour passes with no progress about to give up
>Ask her to describe exactly what she sees
>Find out the search bar says "clickclickclickclickclickclick"
>Realize she's been "writing" click in the search bar for a half hour
>Mother of God

I post this story every time there's a "family tech support" post because this event still haunts me to this day. How could someone who has had a computer for over a year not know what a right click is?...

My mother once made a driver for her printer, because the one from the company was ineffective.

Fast forward 15 years, now she downloads knitting patterns from virus-filled Russian websites.

Story #2

> Be a year later
> Be a gramgram's house, her computer has been slow lately, dad quickly recommends me to clean it
> Had no intention to, but now am expected to help
>Old as **** P4, 512MB RAM with a 17-inch CRT monitor
> Boot that bitch up, Windows XP, not even Service Pack 1
> Pop-ups out the anus
> Get Malwarebytes on that ****** , rename EXE to "mbam" (this was the only way to get Malwarebytes to run back then since viruses would halt the EXE)
> Scan it
> Come back 2 hours later when scan is done, 1200+ viruses
> *********************** .png
> Clean that ****** out (took mbam 30 minutes) and update the poor thing (took 2 hours to install Service Packs and updates)
> Decide to open case and dust it out
> OhGodWhy.png
> Dead mouse rotting on the ******* PCI Ethernet card
After cleaning that out I refused to touch that computer and anything connected to it.

MFW mouse and 1200 viruses

I work at Best Buy and once had a woman complain that when she started up Windows it wouldn't let her do anything because it said she couldn't connect to the internet. I watched as she turned it on, it resumed windows and simply had Chrome full screen. I hit F11 and she was so amazed that she decided to ask me a bunch of stupid computer questions like: "How do I download?" and "What's a file?"

>talk to a friend
>talk about internet browsers
>she said that internet explorder and firefox give more viruses than google chrome
>say that it's not browsers it's just the person surfing on sites and downloading bad files and depending the browser if it have some installed protection
> still claims other browsers give more viruses.

But she's actually right, you uninformed gobblecock. Internet Explorer, and, to a lesser degree, Firefox, have a much higher instance of unfixed vulnerabilities than Chrome. Vulnerabilities that viruses use to get through firewalls and enter your computer. Every browser has vulnerabilities, but Internet Explorer has a lot more than Chrome does. Firefox, only a little more than Chrome. And Opera might as well be made out of swiss cheese with a "virus here" sign on every hole.

I will be the first to admit that I'm not exactly the best when it comes to computers, but at least I usually manage to find a solution for the problem.
