Inflation is supposed to raise by about 2% a year. $20 in 1998 is $28.70 in today's money. It's worth noting that people's income also increases as does minimum wage. I have an A level in economics

It's called inflation. People back then were making less money. Why does everyone tumblr have to be so stupid?

Actually, when you increase minimum wage, then stores have to increase prices, so there is not much of a difference.

Thanks Obama

Yeah, maybe if we stop punishing businesses for hiring locally by increasing national minimum wage, they'll stop outsourcing labor to Asia... Some people don't seem to realize that other people across seas will work for much less, and will be happy with much cheaper living conditions. It's extremely possible to "live" on minimum wage, and there are billions that live for less than "minimum wage" around the world... I realize the cost of living is different, but in a global market, a single nation's minimum wage laws only serve to remove entry-level jobs from that country. Small businesses, the ones that can't outsource, and those without job experience are the ones hit hardest by minimum wage laws.

So we should all accept the wages that are being pushed by apple at foxtech in china? the company with the highest suicide rate of employees of all time? The only way you can compete with slavery is to abolish it; I figured with the US's history they would know this by now

I live on less than 20$ a week, working around 30 hours a month. Some people need to stop complaining and learn how to manage their ******* money

My mother's been out of work for the past seven years due to a back injury. My dad work at a ****** fast food restaurant for 12 years, and only maxed out at $8.25 an hour. He had to stop working because he had back surgery, and now he can't go back to work. He had to turn to government assistance to help support our family. This meant that he had to have his hours cut back, otherwise, according to the government, he'd be making to much to get help. He had to work less than 20 hours a week. All of the money that he gets from the government goes towards the loans he had to take out to be able to pay the bills a few years ago, and towards the bills we have now. Our household includes: Him, my mom, my older sister, my three younger brothers, and me. One of my younger brothers has down syndrome, so he does get a check from the government. That check helps out very You need to login to view this link sister changes her job, and her major, way to often to be of any help, and I've been out of a job since June. I've been looking for a job, but the job market is limited around where I live. Think before you speak, asshole.

Everyone saying that its inflation and It's normal, you're only half right.
Inflation is not a normal. Inflation is js just a fancy way of saying our dollar is becoming less and less valuable. our country's economy is slowly sucking more and more because we keep getting further and further in debt.
If we stopped stroking our big military dick and did something other than pump money into unnecessary things, we wouldn't owe the world so much money and our dollar wouldn't be losing so much value.
TL: Dr: Our country is full of idiots. Our politicians keep pushing us further into debt and its really bad.

People aren't supposed to live off minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs are entry level for like teenagers to get into the workforce. No one was ever supposed to be able to live off of minimum wage.

Back in grandpas day that's what minimum wage meant. The minimum you could be paid, working full time, while still being able to pay all bills/afford all necessities/support your family.

Basically the minimum liveable wage.
