Dude. I have a massive rambunctious vocabulary. I've had people got offended by it as if I'm trying to show my superiority or some other nonsense. I literally just talk this way because it's what I know how to do. This coming from a person who lives in America and learned English as a third language, if anything, it's just a sign of other people's ignorance to learn...

Most native Americans (not indians here, people born in america/citizens) don't have extensive vocabularies. Well, at least the general population.

That's the truth, it's not necessarily a matter of intelligence either. I just happen to read allot and have gotten used to using allot of different words in my mind, know what I mean?

In my personal experience, people that are really passionate about coming to america and living here want to learn the language. But there are also the people that make zero effort to learn the language, or get by with very minimal effort. I'm living with some right now..

I find it sad how the only language I knew till the age of nine was Russian, by age twelve I was fluent in English... I guess there's your effort part.

How hard was it to learn English? I'm a native English speaker, so I can't imagine how hard it must be from what I hear from everyone else.

It was difficult at first, but you pick up fast. English is a pretty easy language. Unlike Russian or most of the other languages you only have to change the end or start of the word to change it's tense/meaning, unlike every other language that needs you to know like three completely different spellings for each tense (That's the hardest part imo). From there you just sound it out like kindergarten.

That's so strange. I'm glad it was so easy for you, but other people tell me it's a pretty hard language to learn. I know it was hard for my Japanese friends, but maybe the difficulty was related to how different the languages worked.

All of the European languages can easily be learned thru basic sound to character comparison, with practice. Since they all evolved and interacted with each other. The South Eastern and Central Eastern Asian countries developed their languages completely separate from us.

Same reason English is 30-40% German with letter replacements that sounds the exact same as the German counter part.

For instance, Америка is America in Russian. To the eyes they look similar and on a sound scale they are pronounced similar as well.

Another bit, once I figured out how to learn languages like that I was able to learn Norwegian, Polish, and Czech by the age I am now which is 16. Once you pass that first hurdle it get's way easier for each new concept. Not to mention I started learning English at a young age, brain development and what not.
