And here we have the perfect example of the childish fighting between military branches in the US.

"Oh god, they called me a soldier hurr durr, but I'm a sailor derp my feelings are hurt! I'm special! and all other branches are retards hurrrrrrrrrrrr"
It's pretty shameful that you guys fight each other over this type of ****, pretty ******* disgraceful for grown men to act like that.

There are some ignorant ***** in this thread.

Every marine I've ever met has corrected people who happen to call them soldiers. Every.single.one.

It's like calling a MMA fighter a Boxer. Different sports. Although, a MMA fighter CAN BE a boxer and a boxer CAN BE a MMA fighter, they are NOT the same. Soldier does not = Marine.

Naive cunts.

When it comes to the United States Military, Marines are grunts, Army is soldiers, Navy is sailors, and Airforce is airmen. So the actual dictionary definition isn't relevant here, because "soldier" is slang for Army personal.

the thing is marines identify differently as to they are a three part mix of solider, sailor, and all things hell was to scared to take. thats why they arent soliders

Except no.

"a person who serves in an army; a person engaged in military service."

to bad the definition of a marine is "a member of a body of troops trained to serve on land or at sea, in particular a member of the US Marine Corps". so marines are in fact different

They're combatants. A combatant is a soldier. Just because they're uppity about being called a soldier, doesn't change the fact that they're soldiers.

Just no. I am a Marine not a Soldier. The general term to use is troop. Army has soldiers. Navy has sailors. Air force has Airmen. The Marines have Marines. By your logic we should be calling all guns an AK-47.

No, ********, a Marine is a goddamned Marine.
There is a distinction for a reason: Marines are better at killing, every Marine is a rifleman yet soldiers that aren't grunts get fat, leave their weapons in their tents, and don't know anything about how to fight.

Except we're not soldiers. Unless you are a Marine, or know a Marine you will never understand why we aren't soldiers.

But you are soldiers. Soldier is a universal term for anyone who fights in an organized force. That is what marines do. You may be marines but you are also soldiers. Whatever is your preference, I don't care, but don't make a fuss when someone calls you a soldier because, and I'll say it again, even if you are a marine a soldier is what you are.

I'm not a marine, nor do I think I am better than any of the other forces. You should all be one unit regardless of the force that is chosen, you are not better than anyone else because we are all in the same position

I'll say it again, and not trying to be an ass, but unless you have served, you won't understand the mentality, and we are the way we are. Marines are first in, last out, so we HAVE to be better than the other branches.

Okay, so you try doing all that on your own, you have SO much assistance from the other forces that you would be lost without them. Marines are the best at what they do simply because they have been trained to do it, but without everyone else you wouldn't last, none of us would

To be honest, we can go without airforce and army. We have our own air support, as well as tanks and arty, and we never do anything with out the Navy, since we are the Navy's infantry

You have your own stuff in the same way that the air force has their own infantry, they are the controllers of the skies but it doesn't mean they are equally powerful on the ground. Marine Corps air power doesn't even compare, my knowledge of your tanks etc is limited so I can only assume it is a similar case. But I would safely say they still have your back whenever you operate
Just to say..I am not trying to bash the marines, simply to say they aren't top dog, I respect anyone who joins any of the forces

Collectively, yes, the U.S armed forces is the toughest in the world, but Marines have been known to get more done than the other branches. If you ever get a chance to read on Marine Corps history, you'll understand the mentality a little bit more.

Am not going into which armed forces is the best since I am not from the US. They 'get more done' in the sense of their operations being widely publicised simply because of the method, things which are done on a daily basis are never noticed
