Okay this comment section makes me lose all faith in you FJ.

First of all Darwinism has nothing to do with Atheism, and secondly this post doesn't address Atheism nor Darwinism directly.

Teaching children about evolution is not indoctrination, and it most certainly doesn't have anything to do with the concept of atheism. Evolution is science religion is not.

Furthermore atheism is not a belief system no matter how much you wish it so. The same way "Didn't go to school" is not an education.

Honestly i think it is sad and childish that people are offended, when these so called "militant atheists" are trying to educate on the flaws of religion, cause i think they genuinely care about giving people a more real view on the universe. I admire them, even though I can't really find it in my heart to care about people intelligence as much as they do. As i see it we need people working at McDonald's too.

The same thing goes for religion, if you honestly believe that I'm going to spend an eternity suffering if i don't convert to <insert religion here> I'd want you to do all that you could to convert me, while i probably wouldn't really care for the content, I actually think I'd appreciate the thought.

In other words I really don't understand why FJ sees indifference as the grandest virtue of all.

There needs to be a symbol for atheists there. Like the darwin fish
They aren't any less interested in their kids having the same view of life as themselves

i noticed how there isnt anything for atheism, like if the parents choose to raise a baby as an atheist it doesnt get branded. ok thats a fair and logically point. and people talking about how atheism isnt a belief, thats just stupid.

That's correct though. Atheism isn't a thing you teach. It's just absence of theistic teachings.

I'm going to raise my children Christian and there's nothing any of you can do about it. If they come up to me and tell me that they don't want to be Christian, that's fine. However, they better have something different to replace Christianity. If they don't have a different religions and just want to be Atheist, I'm going to raise them Buddhist.

Everybody needs something to believe in. They may not need a deity but they need something.

Or they could develop morals by themselves and not need a book to teach them what to do.

If parents didn't instill religion at an early age of childhood development... there would be no religion.

Yeah let them chose BUT if they actually chose a religion don't forget to make fun of them, mock them and call them stupid at every single occasion you get.
Atheist logic

See, if we were given choice like me, I think we'd all chose Odin over that crazy desert guy who hits people with lightning for really petty crap.

To people with religious beliefs, there is a lot of confusion about whether atheist is or is not a belief. I'm an atheist and I would contest that is not a belief to not believe in something that doesn't have any evidence of existing. In the same way I wouldn't say that not believing in vampires is a belief on the same level that requires as much faith as someone claiming they do believe in vampires.

Gnostic Athiesm isn't common at all. To fit with the scientific theory Agnostic Athiesm is the only one that makes sense as you cannot have evidence to prove there is none (Due to the nature of it) but you can take the stance that there is no proof of one and so it does not exist until further evidence is presented.

Not beleiving in something is not itself a belief because there are an infinite number of things you don't believe in, making any single one irrelevent. When people say 'There is no God' they're really just shortening 'There is currently no evidence to suggest that a God exists and therefore rationally we must take the neutral position of it not existing until such time as evidence is presented.'

Well, from a catholic stand point, baptism is like an "induction" into the religion. When a child turns 13 or so, they are confirmed, if they so choose. I'm agnostic myself, but I was baptized.

As a confirmed Catholic, may I thank you for getting **** right about your birth religion, as well as congratulate you on forming your own opinion with regards to the world?

My whole family has never been very religious, so I don't know squat about religion. With my baby on the way, I wonder how it will turn out. I plan on letting her choose her own religion, but I have no clue how I might help her learn about the one she chooses. I figure I could buy copies of the Bible, Koran etc. and leave them around the house....

Does anyone else here have kids? How do you handle religion and your children?

If my children end up believing in religions, I hope it's at least because they genuinely think they sound legitimate, and not because they want to belong to one just for hipstery reasons.
