My bands training camp once had a problem with ants. They just love to get on all the cables, just like that. We tried ant traps and all, but nothing helped. But then, one day, one of us forgot a almost-empty can of pepsi on the floor, and damn, it has been the best ant trap ever. The bottom inside of the can is blackened with dead ants. I highly recommend this for you.

We once toppled the can by accident, sugary ant-bodies everywhere.

I work in the HVAC field and we run into lots of problems with ants. In fact there is a species of ant in Central America that has mutated to resist most chemicals we common use to kill ants, and so far, no one has found a safe alternative. Why they gather around electrical things (such as air conditioners) is that they like warm areas, and electricity is warm. They also leave a scent or something similar (I don't know how ant senses work) that other ants can pick up to find them.
