Actually that's an 18th century invention for a patriotic salute.

No roman painting, statue, coin or book mention or depict this salute, and it was unknown before the 18th century.

That was more in the 80s
Now all the police go to the games for is to keep both side's fans mainly seperate (inside the stadium, not so much outside although the coaches the visiting supporters came in do have officers around them), and to remove single or small groups of rowdy fans or drunks.
Trust me it's pretty boring standing there but I get paid to watch the game so it's worth it

"Syrians protesting and fighting for freedom"

Yeah, they're waving the Syrian flag, not the rebel flag. That's actually a support rally for Assad, most Syrians support him. They'd rather a mostly benevolent and secular dictator to a fundamentalist Islamic Shariah ******** which the rebels (most of whom are foreign Al-Queda and other Islamist cell fighters) are attempting to impose.
Pic related, another support rally for Assad.

People need to realise that outside forces are attempting to destabalise Syria as it is the last strong ally that Iran has in the region. I for one hope that Assad manages to crush the rebellion and restore order to his country.

You realize a lot of the rebels are defects form the military as well as Syrians who are fighting in their backyards, better yet in their own living room if it still stands. Yeah there are foreign fighters there but even if, they would never kill innocent people for the outside world to support them, because they already have that. The area which was attacked by chemical weapons was rebel territory. As much of a proxy war you might think this is, your looking way beyond the actual truth

"a lot" actually 94% of the rebels aren't even from Syria and you can also split the rebels in different groups like FSA,Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda etc. There is more than enough footage of those said "rebels" killing innocent people.

"UN has evidence to suggest rebels used chemical weapons"
********. Check this part of an interview with the woman that mentioned this "evidence":

Isabelle Kumar, euronews:

Back in May you caused some controversy with your statements when you said there was evidence that the rebels had been using chemical weapons, do you regret having said that?

Carla del Ponte:

No absolutely not and I confirm that, but of course there is not conclusive evidence. There are first elements of an investigation and so let’s see what will happen during the investigation but we have some elements, of course, otherwise I would not speak about it.

Isabelle Kumar, euronews:

But the evidence seems to show that the chemical weapons are used more by the regime than by the rebels.

Carla del Ponte:

I don’t know. Now it is time to wait and to have the final results of the investigation."

She doesn't know!

I'm certain that Assad will give the Kurds independence. As for Kurd territory in Iraq, since the Iraqi government is friendly to Damascus and Tehran, it will probably be united with Syrian Kurdistan. Iraq is no position to oppose it given the chaos there.
