no you ******* .
sqrt(4) = 2, never -2

what youre thinking of is given an equation of x^2 = 4
which can be simplifed as x = +/-sqrt(4)
x1 = 2 and x2 = -2

square roots are always >= 0 (working in the Real set)!

no you *******
"In mathematics, the nth root of a number x is a number r which, when raised to the power of n, equals x" from wikipedia
So both 2 and -2 equals sqrt(4)

Actually, anytime you introduce the square root, there is immediately a negative. As a rule of parabolic equations, there are two x intercepts (assuming its not the vertex and there is a solution) and you will get a negative, which you then have to solve for.

(-2)^2=4 because a negative multiplied by a negative is positive (-2 x -2 = 4)

Do you even math bro? sqrt(x^2) = |x| which means sqrt(2^2) = ±2
In the image you can see that there are two possible solutions for x^2 = 4 or |x| = 2

Or because their actions acually make them, in some parts, worth less than the others.
User avatar #14 to #4 - zehutit (09/07/2013) [-]
actually its (-2) where the negative is inside, -2 would equal -4
User avatar #15 to #14 - zehutit (09/07/2013) [-]
but i see where youre going and youre correct

I see what you are trying to get. Both of you are right, as the square root of 4 is +-2.

What's the premise of 2+2=5?
#29 to #27 - slothmaster (09/08/2013) [-]
1984 is about living under a government based on the soviet union and nazi germany. Everyone must think act and feel the way Big Brother (the supposed one controlling the government.) wants them the 2+2=5 thing was used as an example of "if the government says it, it must be true." as in you have to believe anything they tell you and do as they say or be subjected to torture. it's a great read, i highly recommend it.

Okay, this **** really bugs me. If you're that fussed, how about your try getting into politics?

We don't live in a real monarchy (i mean, i have a queen, but the elected government make the descisions), and those people are regular people. Nobody gets taken away for saying that the people in charge are the same as everybody else, you get taken away if you claim they are all lizard men, or that every politician and celebrity is a member of the illuminati. you get taken away for saying that they are radically different, not for saying they are the same.

if you don't like the people in charge, try to become one of them. make actual change, or at least whine to the people you want to change (like i'm whining at you, because i want you to change).

tldr? you and everybody posting political **** saying that people get taken away for stuff like this are idiots, so shut up

Holy **** this just blew my mind in a slow, creeping realization. Okay so, long as time ago, Shaggy said in the original Hanna Barbara Scooby Doo franchise they referenced this. It was some episode where they were on the docks I think, and they used soap to capture the ghost. And a fire hose. Anyway, Shaggy said "Like how 2 + 2 = five, Man?" To Velma. So does this mean- Ah **** it I lost it.
