Fastest way to end this war would be to send the U.S. congress to Syria instead of the U.S. military.

I don't understand what is so taboo about aiding the Syrians against their horrid government, they used chemical weapons against their own citizens, something that is universally known as a war crime! Sure we've been in two and a half wars for the past thirty+ years, but something like that is just unacceptable.

unless there's something else to it that I'm just not aware of, wouldn't doubt it

Well, one problem I have is that the US for the two weeks has been saying "we know it was Assad, we have incontrovertible proof of it" and all they proceed to actually show the public is a paper from the CIA in which they claim to have proof and to be certain it was Assad, but none of the actual evidence was released to the public. Not the satellite images nor the phone call they supposedly tapped or anything else while the Russians, who say it was the Rebels, at least have common sense on their side. Putin is right, why would Assad use chemical weapons, knowing that this would give the US an excuse to join the war, when his troops were winning on all fronts and the war looked to be almost over?

Also, the government may be bad, but the Rebels are worse. The Assads at least let everyone live peacefully together while in many rebel-controlled areas, Christians and Alewites were forced to flee under threat of violence or killed outright. You can also look at any of their vids on Youtube, literally 95% of what they do is yelling "Allah-u-Akbar" at the top of their lungs.

Sorry, but America needs to intervene in Syria. Not with boots on the ground, but with airstrikes and munitions supply to the Moderates within the rebel faction. The only reason why the UNSC hasn't approved of any military action is because of Russia wanting to keep their only ally in the region.

Without the US intervening, this bloody, brutal civil war will only continue to drag on, while the country continues to melt down, the rebels become more and more radical and Al Qaeda influenced, and more people die.

though I wish america wouldn't be dragged into another war/policing action in another country, there's really no choice here. It's not that syria killed its own people, it's how it did it. If the unitied states and UN ignored the fact they used chemical weapons, it shows that they can't keep their word on such actions breaking the Geneva conventions, allowing any crazy fool with such bombs to do as he pleases.

President Obama was just asked if he'd attack Syria, even if Congress votes it down. He wouldn't say no.

Sad. Tell me how he's different from Bush?

If a program brainstormed to have the most peaceful, humanitarian and advanced humans in it has something called "the prime directive" , then I think that's what we should do now, why does everyone have to interfere with each others crap all the time.

So what you are saying is that if I see some guy being robbed and beaten up somewhere, I should shrug and walk by?
User avatar #47 - tonyxx (09/06/2013) [-]
Using Chemical weapons to kill over at least 1,300 and wound countless more men, women, and children, is outlawed my the Geneva conventions, making this an international war crime. Obama does not want to 'Murrica the **** out of Syria all by his lonesome, he wants to join the UN to form a collective policing effort against the Syrian government. In my opinion, if you believe that the United States has no place in the business of Syria, you should understand that complacency towards such matters has caused the escalation of atrocities the likes have not been seen since the Second World War.
