antisocial behavior is no were near as cute as this comic is trying to say, i have a cousin who is schizo, and has severe antisocial behavior. he locked himself in his room for months, had his mom get him food and bring it to his room, only went out to shower/bathroom and when i was 14 to 18 i didnt see him at any family parties for years, probably a good 4. even parties in his house.

, hed lock himself in his room and wouldt come outside, if we were there. not even for his parents birhtdays anything. this lasted for years, he couldnt do anything not even continue college cause he couldnt walk out his room. and once he started finally coming out on his own, it was almost impossible to talk to him, it was like he lost how to communicate with people, though seeing him come out his room on his own was a huge sign he was getting better, and hes came a very long way from how he use to be.

He comes to family events now, ive hung out with him at his house, me and my other cousin would go over his house play games till 2 am and just have a good time, weve gone gambling, he has a license and is now able to conversate well, but he still gets hit with small periods were hell lock himself in his room for a few months.

ill send him texts to see if hes alright, and hell respond and well talk and ill ask him if he wants me to hang out with me and my cousin and hell either not respond, or say hes busy. and theres not much i can do, ive tried going to his house but he wouldnt answer the door. but thats antisocial behavior. not this **** of getting ******* avenger dvds and trying to be cute. "oh no one gets what i like, im so antisocial cause i cant relate to anyone here, i need more friends it sucks being antisocial omg." im so ******* sick of seeing and hearing people like that. be glad you can have the peace of mind to even leave your ******* house.

I say blame the people who refer to people like me as "antisocial". It's just social anxiety. Not saying it's a good thing, it's ******* annoying as hell, but it's better than a fullblown antisocial.
Also, hope your cousin gets better.

You're right, and I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think that's why there's quotation marks. I think it's saying that she is absolutely nothing like her peers, and so doesn't want to hang out with them, therefore people call her "Antisocial".
#304 to #62 - hoskins (09/03/2013) [-]
hence why antisocial is in quotations.

I think the point of the comic is that she's not really antisocial, she just differs so much from her surrounding peers that they deem her antisocial...

I'm 16 years old, but I understand this. You have given the CORRECT definition. Not "LOL in my house being antisocial with nutella and batman and xbox and stuffs haha". I've had anti-social problems ontop of depression an anxiety which prevents me from communicating with even my family-I can't even speak to them on the phone, walk my dog or go shopping. The only time I will leave my home is to go to school. I simply cannot be around people, it's not just a WON'T thing, it's a CAN'T thing. Several things contributed to me being the way I am, I had an abusive mother (I understand many people have rough upbringings), I was sexually assaulted in my school and home and no action was taken. Slowly but surely, things got worse. It's been like this since I started high school. BUT I'm now in my final year, I became a prefect at my school, see specialist nurses&counsellors (instead of medicines) and things are getting better. I have bad days and good days, I feel "normal".

Kinda reminds me of myself. I usually never go out with friends. I lost many of my friends because i would just rather stay home and be alone in my room. Sometimes the only social life I have is with my old friends in the previous states and that is mostly just for online multiplayer. The only way my family would get me out of my room is if they told me that they want to go somewhere days before the event. Even to this day I mostly stay in my room. I only go out if I wanna go and buy comics or clean the house a bit. And bathroom and food obviously. I used to hang out with friends every once in a while but they started to go out to parties for often than I liked. And Parties make me anxious as hell. I was never diagnosed with anything thought. I just never been to therapist. Maybe in not in your cousin's exact shoes but he is a loner. and he prefers to be alone sometimes. It seems unhealthy to others but for him its what he wants.

Glad to hear someone like that is getting better. I often worry mine issues is worsening, I was stupid to slowly break the connections with my friends, so it means I haven't even talked to any of them for almost 2 years. I find it a little easier talking to some long distance friends on skype every now and then, but I find myself locked up in my room if anyone comes over, even my own sister. It is difficult to push myself into anything with the family, so I can't imagine his struggle, I just hope I can really do something about it before I end up as recluse as he was.
User avatar #86 to #79 - fladen (09/03/2013) [-]
it is possible, ive seen it with my cousin. i know theres probably people on fj that have it as well, and all i can say is to know it can get better. a lot better. he went from being locked up byhimself, to coming out and not ever speaking a word to us, one word answers. to now were talking about Ufc fights, video games, stupid **** on youtube anything. and its a big stride for him and im sure you can make it as well.
User avatar #90 to #86 - poiklman (09/03/2013) [-]
Thanks for telling that story about him, it's always nice to hear people in that self destructive position finding a way to slowly get out of it, even though I'm not yet in the same category as him. And good on you for being one of those people to help out so much, a lot of people wouldn't have the patience to deal with people that withdrawn, and knowing from how I've felt, even little signs of concern from others is a big deal for someone's sense of self. I get annoyed with myself for not knowing how to show that I appreciate them giving me time of day, but when you get him back into the swing of life, he'll be thanking you all he can. Good luck to him.

I can relate to you cousin's situation.

Keep it up man, drag him into doing more stuff outside his damned box.
User avatar #76 to #67 - fladen (09/03/2013) [-]
it works every now and then, but sometimes you just cant do much. and in their state they can fall back more if you try pressing onto them, ive seen it happen with him.

idk its just this "antisocial" type this comic represents is a fad now, and i see a lot of people trying to say they are antisocial. just like it was like years back when everyone said they were OCD and stuff. people trying to be random all the time said they had ADHD and ******* now its like "people dont get the nerdy thing im into im so antisocial :c halp i need people to understand what i like." it ******* pisses me off i wouldnt want anyone to have it, and seeing people trying to play it off gets me upset sometimes.
User avatar #243 to #76 - johnnybtrollin (09/03/2013) [-]
it's just faggots trying to get attention, like GAMURR GURRLLZZ. Anyways, i hope you cousin succeeds in getting out and having a decent life. It's damn depressing when you can't just help it, been there, done that.
