I'm going for a Art Degree and theres a lot of jobs available to us. To the uneducated swine, fine arts is the degree that guarantees a McDonalds job. Not all art majors are useless.

I have no idea why you're getting thumbed down, I'm doing Illustration in September, I know I'll have a load of options open to me job wise.
You go Artist, you go.

Awesome ! I wish you the best of luck.
I'm currently studying Illustration.

I don't see why you get thumbed down.
Art doesn't only consist of drawing.
As an artist, you get paid a ******** of money for everyday "art" - Web Designs, Layouts, Logos, Web Elements, Publishing, Modelling, Interior design.
You find jobs in a very wide spectrum of branches - Finances, Motor Industry, IT, architecture, and so on and so on.

I am a software engineer and web developer (prae-doc) and worked in a lot of companies as a freelancer. I never came across a company without at least one really well-paid artist.

FJers also seem to forget that there is a difference between being some random artist from a random college and getting a real arts degree at an established and honoured artistic university.
As someone living in Vienna, I can tell you for sure that bigger companies kill each other over graduates from the "Universität angewandter Kunst", just like they kill each other over graduates from the "Konservatorium" when it comes to the musical branches.

There are worthless arts degrees, and there are arts degrees that will get you a top-paid job.
Just like there are worthless engineering degrees and engineering degrees that get you a top-paid job.

Art degree.....

Why didn't you just burn your parent's car and house if you wanted to waste money so badly?
#34 to #33 - ihateallofyoualot **User deleted account** (09/02/2013) [-]
If only you had any idea what you're talking about.

Pro-tip: Art Degree isn't single thing, theres different sections. The concept art for the video games you play, who do you think makes them?
User avatar #37 to #34 - reginleif (09/02/2013) [-]
>implying a sizeable portion of "artists" actually get a job that useful.

>implying artists get jobs.
User avatar #39 to #37 - ihateallofyoualot **User deleted account** (09/02/2013) [-]
Illustrators get those jobs, Fine Artists don't. Once again different Art Degrees have different sections. Everything video game design studio has artists, but you have no idea what you're talking about so keep >implying.
User avatar #40 to #39 - reginleif (09/02/2013) [-]
You keep mentioning these "different sections" of art. But I challenge you to find a field that is AS useful and has an unemployment rate of a STEM major.

"has artists".

Every airport has pilots.... you don't see me saying that's a hot field to join in right now.

That logic could be applied to any high unemployment field though.(anyone can get a job if they TRIED) If the degree isn't getting you into a lower rate of unemployment and a higher salary, then it is "burning money".

Art (most fields) is not in demand, it doesn't pay, and it isn't particularly useful to man. No matter what criteria is used, art whether it be for game illustration, advertising, or just being a teacher...just fails the test.

You're just trying to save face now. Just take your leave.

>isn't useful

Art is the idea of imagination, we create worlds, ideas, and concepts. You could be the most intelligent person alive, but if you do not have any imagination you will be a waste of space. People need to have an imagination to imagine greater for the world. Art promotes this, Comic books create alternative universes and were able to instill morals into its audiences through the idea of a hero and so do video games. Art has been around since the beginning of time. You can keep pretending its useless but without it, our world would be very different today. You need us and you'll miss us when we're gone.

>You're just trying to save face now. Just take your leave. <

Save face to whom? A pissant art major? A near anonymous community on the internet? 0.o You must be joking or trying to dominate an argument with some distraction.

>Wall of text<

!! Who's trying to save face now?!! Starting off from a talk about the viability of employment in the arts, then ending with some idealistic drivel on how grand art is.

>You need us and you'll miss us when we're gone. <

Meh, I think I'd miss the doctors or the engineers more though...

You're getting outsmarted by a "pissant art major"

You're just making it worse for yourself. That Wall of text is something you should read, you uneducated swine.

MFW you keep posting

;/ Clearly I'm getting outsmarted here... because I am making statements here, and you are countering them in a factual logical manner.

Yup that's totally happening and not that you're going all over the place and posting reaction pics like some autistic 12 year old.

Pic semi related I guess.

Yet another pointless reaction image, and the nitpicking.

Are you ever going to address the unemployment issue again, or will you wait until graduation is over?

Welcome to the internet newfriend

YFW you have no reaction images

Are you even attending college or are you just a butthurt you aren't intelligent enough to go?

I like reaction images, I also enjoy the internet, and online fps's.

I just hate it when children get a hold of them. (You! )

And yeah I'm a Physio major about to graduate actually... and from my experience with the A and H students I can tell you that your last sentence was ******** , you don't need "smarts" to get into a college for A or H. Most random guys off the street could do a passable job at it.

Being a Pretend doctor is better than a Art Major?

You don't need smarts for community college but for most major universities its all about test scores.

Pretend? Physiology branches into many job fields in education, research and health

(every one more beneficial than art, so I wouldn't spend too much time laughing)

Also yes, after graduation I do plan to go into Medical school. (Still feel like laughing now, faggot?)

@Smarts: You don't need smarts to go into many unis, but you could leave half your brain at home and still do decently in most Art programs.

You have to present a good portfolio to get in, they make sure they don't let talentless artists get into art schools. A lot of people don't get in.

"plan on going" Yes as a matter of fact I am, you probably haven't even applied yet. It's not easy to get in, I know they probably don't tell you that at community college. You're like a step below Chiropractor. Are you even trying?

"you're ignorance"

Riiight.

And as for the wall of text, I did read it. I just thought it was a **** defense....

But if you're bored then fine, I can't exactly hold you.

Posted here because I can't reply to the other.

your* I mistyped

If you got anything out of this you should at least check out some art, its not useless. Theres some incredible stuff out there, if you go out and look for it.

This is my final reply.

>You have to present a good portfolio to get in, they make sure they don't let talentless artists get into art schools. A lot of people don't get in. <

So congrats, you're a "talented" artist..... well at least that's what you're implying when you mentioned the admissions process.

You're pretty much the equivalent of a polished turn with the term "talented artist". So really congratulations on your success on getting into art school.

Still doesn't change the fact that a plumber didn't jump those hurdles and still makes as much bank and is more useful than yours truly.

**** even the McDonald's employee feeds society.... please tell me again what an artist does? 0.o

@Med school: You really should have applied that critical eye of yours to your own career.... scouted out before. Then perhaps you wouldn't be on FunnyJunk justifying your pointless career.

Also, where do you get your information? Fox News?

They said graphic design can make 32-49 grand a year, thats enough to live comfortable. Nobody goes into a art degree planning to be rich. These aren't in proper order either. 4 of the 13 were art based.

People go into Art careers because they want to be happy, "if you love what you do you wont work a day in your life" is the idea there. There are better options financially but majority of the time its not about money. Also, that is the average, marketing and business comes into play and other graphic designs make a killing if they go about it right.
