For mid 90s, that was considered a very large amount, especially seeing as Games at the time were very easy for computers to play. I have an old dell laptop that has 60GB of memory and 512mb ram, which was built in 2003. Now my Compaq laptop has a 750GB hard and 6GB ram

I remember watching "Hackers" and the kid said his computer had like 1G of RAM, and everyone was all "OH **** DUDE THAT'S AMAZING!!" and I just sat there like...
"damn...that sucks"

It's so strange to remember that, 4G of RAM seemed impossible for the average computer awhile back :/ I still remember using AOL...holy **** that was annoying..Things have come so far...I love the internet..and computers.....and Batman

Yes, but cases are still important, there are SI prefixes for a reason
m = milli = 0.001
M = mega = 1000000
b = bit
B = byte (8 bits)

False
Bit isn't abbreviated anyway
You would say kilobit, or megabit
Or if you wanted to abbreviate it would be kbit, or mbit respectively

Do your research, I mean even a cursory glance at wikipedia would stand you in better stead

You see, cupcake sometimes people like mr dorner here with his oh so biting satire write terrible jokes, like the genius idea to style himself after that murderer from that time.
These people need to be put down at every turn. Eventually they'll realise they aren't funny and, god willing, dorner here will pop one in his head, like his namesake

False, ISPs advertise their internet speed in Mbps not MBps intentionally, because idiots see you went from 25 Mbps to 35 Mbps and think it's a big change when is a change of 1.25 MBps and it sells better as such

At the risk of false advertisement, companies must write the abbreviation correctly. I was assuming that you knew such. Since they sell in Mbps, for Megabits/sec then bits is in fact abbreviated in such a manner

I feel we're getting away from the crux of my argument, which was that no one would think mb meant milli-bits

nobody except anyone with a knowledge of SI units, yes the measurement is absurd, and we don't use a unit of that size, but that is exactly why the starter of this thread made that joke. Your argument was pointless, units are units there is nothing else to it.

Of course it was a joke, bits are binary, meaning it's logically impossible to have a fraction of a bit. The reason I said that in the first place is because cases are important in some abbreviations, especially SI prefixes for example:
Y = yotta = 1000000000000000000000000
y = yocto = 0.000000000000000000000001
Similar relationships apply to some of the other prefixes

By joke I don't mean that it was supposed to be funny. It was to mock the fact that the creator of the content didn't use the correct abbreviations, in a similar way that people would mock content if they used incorrect grammar. The whole root of the argument is still based on whether or not MB is the same as mb, which it isn't. But as you pointed out common sense would say it's the same. It's the same as your and you're.

Jesus christ, do you want all the definitions?
1. Something said or done to evoke laughter or amusement, especially an amusing story with a punch line.
2. A mischievous trick; a prank.
3. An amusing or ludicrous incident or situation.
4. Informal
a. Something not to be taken seriously; a triviality: The accident was no joke.
b. An object of amusement or laughter; a laughingstock: His loud tie was the joke of the office.
