Can goldfish eat Beef Jerky?

Can goldfish eat Beef Jerky?
Explanation: My dorm screwed up because they thought goldfish would make a great prize at this event they were having only to find out no one wanted to take care of goldfish. Well my RA is going floor to floor asking for people who will take them. She helped me out early this day and I thought having a fish could be cool. I WAS SO WRONG! Turns out I basically got a fish in a cup with no way to care for it. NO BOWL! NO FOOD! not even some pointless rocks to leave at the bottom. Granted I'm sure the fish has a slightly better chance with me because I honestly think they have no intention of keeping or caring for any of these fish but back to me. I decide to look for somewhere close by I can walk to... the closest thing I got is 53 minute walk. (I got no car )I may feel sorry for this fish but I have limits to my kindness. OKAY, what about delivery online? Most sites say 2-3 day shipping and I'm not sure if it will even live till tomorrow. I noticed that I got a bunch of jerky and I was looking online and fish do eat bugs and smaller fish so why not rip up a piece jerky into fish size bites? I'm pretty sure I'm wrong but I honestly can't think of much else I can do. I'm not sure if I did the right thing by taking it. I don't think RAs and staff are heartless but I don't think any of them were prepared for this huge mistake and it would probably still be dead. Granted store bought goldfish tend to die pretty easily. yeah this fish is f#ucked.

Well it is way past midnight where I am. Wish Ningen and me good nights sleep and hopefully a happy morning. (I named him after these mythical arctic fish people because of the freezing idea. : You need to login to view this link )

P.S. I'm too scared to freeze him encase it would actually kill him. >.<

If the fish survive you would need at least one of these
bestanimalfacts . com/ru/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/MiniFishTanks3.jpg

I don't know but there are some kind of fish like betta fish, that don't need a filter, maybe this is one of those?

You don't have a bowl? not a fish bowl, I mean bowl for cereal or something, you could put more water and keep feeding with that jerky, maybe it will survive until you can buy something more appropriate. And don't call yourself, stupid, you just wanted to give a chance to that fish.

I'm going to try to get a ride tomorrow morning but if you read ffx post I apparently need to cycle any water I try to give to this or it will die and I lack the material to cycle water.

P.S. I'm waiting to hear enough people to say it is reasonable idea before I try it. I'm hoping the fish have been feed recently and apparently they can die from over eating and only should be feed 1-3 times a day. why do things die so easily?

Yes, but it's not always, like I say there are some kind of fish that can survive with out a filter or cycle the water, like betta fish, you put it in a jar, bowl or glass and it will be fine, maybe this is one like that, there are goldfish, japanese goldfish, another goldfish than can grow very very large, and other goldfish that stay in one size.

the bad thing it's that you don't know what kind of fish is, you can ask to the person who bought it, where he/she bought the fish and then take it, if you can, maybe they will tell you what kind of fish is or even give to them to take care... in any case, leave it there, if by tomorrow morning is alive then try to get the thing for him if not, well you do what can.

If you ever decide to kill it. Just put clove oil in the water, then put it in a freezer. Most humane way to euthanize it as it'll die while it's sleeping.

As nice as that may be, I want it to let it live even if it is only for a little while.
That and I don't have a freezer.

It won't survive long. Right now it's possibly suffocating as fishes require nitrates to breathe properly in water. Only thing that does that is certain bacteria that only become available when you "cycle" your water and filter. It's going to die of suffocation unless you put it into a fish tank with cycled water.

what is "cycle water"?
User avatar #9 to #6 - ffx (09/01/2013) [-]
I should really correct myself. I haven't really brushed into this topic. It's actually water with nitrites, nitrates, and the appropriate bacteria to convert it.

well from what little I read I have nothing to cycle water and lack clove oil or a freezer. this may be an even worse idea but is there somewhere I can just dump my fish where it will actually have a chance to survive. Probably makes it even less of a creditable idea but I got it from "super paper mario".

Water containing nitrites and the sort. Pure water in essence does not provide enough for fishes to breath. More information here:
