The key to keeping your bike safe is not how thick your lock is.. is how much work will it take to cut the lock... if a thief walk by your bike and sees that you have the front, back wheel and the frame chained to a pole its more likely that he'll walk away and find another bike because its not worth his time to spend a good few minutes cutting chains for your bike, unless you ride 5,000$ bike... most thieves carry around a small pliers that is capable of cutting one of thous cheep 5$ chains.. so, i suggest getting two 30-40$ chains if you ride a cheep 400$ bike like me, if you got some good **** , get one of them 100$ locks

And don't get those ****** wee plastic coated metal ones either.

I was standing outside the library having a smoke when two scumbags ran up and flat out kicked the chain off the metal bar it was attached Like not even use a pair of cutters or anything, literally just kicked it off.

$400 for a bike is cheap?

its better to invest 900$ in a (city) bike once, than having to buy a now one every 2 years. The quality of the parts does a big jump at this price point. For a mountain bike I would not buy anything under 1200$
If it gets stolen this is a moot point though

I'd rather buy a CPU with that much money...

I've had the same bike since like 5th grade and it still works fine. Probably cost about $70.

trust me, you're not gonna find anything "ok" under that... when i decided to buy a bike i thought 150$ was the most id have to spend... i was wrong

Unless you plan on leaving city limits, does it really matter?
