NO, BRITAIN BURNED DOWN THE WHITE HOUSE!

Canada only supplied around 1200 troops to the effort. And the British only burned down the White House because the US burned down Canada's capital. But you don't see us bragging about it

There were no military conflicts anywhere near Ottawa, and I don't know where you got the number of only 1200 troops. The real number was 10000 provincial regulars and 4000 provincial militia, don't forget the 10000 natives from Canada. I don't understand why Americans get so buttmad when anyone mentions the burning of the white house, is it really that hard admitting something that happened 200 years ago?

" US burned down Canada's capital."
And i respond saying that there were never any conflicts in Ottawa (the capital of Canada), I don't understand how that makes me ignorant.

YORK was the capital of Canada during the War of 1812
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_York (if the url is deleted than just google the Battle of York).

The capital was not moved to Ottawa until after the war. How do you Canadians not even know this about your own capital and history? It's just as annoying as hearing, "Hurr durr we burned down the White House."

No, you did not burn down the White House, British soldiers from the Napoleonic Wars burned down the White House. Those same men returned to Britain. Furthermore, saying that Canada burned down the White House is like saying the US raped Canada's ass in the Battle of New Orleans. Oh wait, it didn't because once again it was the British that the US was fighting. Perhaps Canadians should actually learn history before they decide to prance around about it

York was the Capital of Upper Canada (a province), not all of Canada.

Canada was not a country, it was a colony of Britain. York served as the housing for the governor, who was the king's representative over the colonies, and military headquarters. The Parliament Building (which was in York) was also burned. So you fail when you go, "but but Ottawa," now you want to say, "but but it was only the capital of Upper Canada). Yeah, just like there was no capital for the US until it became a country, or any official capitals for that matter. York was the capital of Canada, and that is why they moved the parliament to Ottawa. Your point is invalid, deal with it

No, York was the head of Upper Canada, and overseer of all of Canada at the time.

I don't think you understand, Lower Canada , which had it's own capital (Quebec) later combined with Upper Canada to create The Province Of Canada. So if you wanna nitpick to that extent, you can say they burnt down A Canadian capital , but not THE Canadian capital, because no such city existed till the creation of Ottawa/Province Of Canada.

The thing is that we accomplished our goal. It wasn't a war to take over Canada, it was a war to stop attacks and impressment on American settlements and of American sailors. Since we accomplished our goal, we cannot have lost. But you also accomplished your own goal in that you did not let us expand into your territory. I have always felt there was only one group that trully lost that war. The Native Americans. They lost land, rights, etc. in that war.
