My bro was telling me that they got rid of the clamshell design because it was designed for children and the most common part to break was at the hinges so they got rid of it. It makes sense to me. I honestly don't even touch the 3d feature on my 3ds.

somehow I knew a lot of people would bitch about this... Its for younger kids! That's why they got rid of the folding because its less likely to break that way, and they got rid of the 3D so it doesn't damage little kids still developing eyes! They also dropped the price $50, so now maybe families who couldn't afford a 3ds can afford a 2ds! No ones making you buy this!

I know, right?

I mean, sure it’s marketed towards kids and all. But what kinda kid would want a big, cumbersome handheld game console with a small screen that doesn't even FOLD?

I actually think this is a good design. It's for younger children, and it looks much more durable than the current 3DS seeing as there is no hinge.

It is essentially what the Gameboy Micro was to the SP.
Not a successor, but simply an alternative.

The 2DS isn't meant to replace the 3DS. It's just a cheaper, 3D-less, and hingeless version of it.

I just finished reading a couple articles on this that my husband sent me this morning.

Like other people pointed out, it is cheaper. At a price point of $130, it's considerably more affordable than even the regular 3DS.

Why not just buy a used regular DSi? The 2DS plays 3DS games, just without the 3D part. It also offers better software than the DSi and still have all of the functions and capabilities of the 3DS.

Some people have mentioned that the design will mean that the screens will be damaged more easily. I don't see how this is any worse than handing a $300 tablet to a three year old to play angry birds. I'm sure that cases will be made to protect it, you will still be able to buy screen protectors and the whole thing will have a case to fit in

Also, on top of all of that the set release date for this handheld is October 12th, the same day that Pokemon X & Y are coming out. No doubt that it will be a selling point to say that they're both available on the same day. A lot of people get into DS gaming just for Pokemon.

I wouldn't be surprised if they released special editions of this at the same time, or soon after with a bundle deal on Pokemon. I bought my 3DS XL as the bundle with Animal Crossing.

People are over reacting, it's a smart move on their part, and i'm not a fanboy.

-For people who can't afford $180 so easily? Check
-For people only there for the games? Check
-For people who only want a 3DS for Pokemon? Check
-For people/kids who don't want/need 3D? Check The 3D gives me headaches
-For people/kids who don't want a potential broken henge? Check

And don't tell me you hate the design, you don't buy a console cause it looks cool or not, you buy it for the GAMES. If you don't want it, then buy a fucking 3DS then, you are given an OPTION, you're not forced to buy it.

Think things through before going ape shit.

It's for kids. It's not for you. Get over it and buy a 3ds or 3ds xl.

If you looked at reddit (ya know the place you repost from) today, theres an article about its TARGET AUDIENCE being 7 or younger.
Its cheaper so they can get it more feasibly, and no hinge because kids break them.

I don't understand why people think the Xbox One is ugly.. It is a well designed console.

It's a much cheaper version that can play both 3ds and ds games and geared at younger kids.

Meaning that people might see it as a cheaper alternative to give their younger offspring.

I still hate it but marketing wise it's brilliant.
