Yes but for one Shakespeare made the parent of swag and its (Swagger) is also used in Romeo and Juliet. I think its quite appropriate.

This would be funnier if the original Shakespearean play wasn't so damn similar.
User avatar #37 to #21 - roflsaucer (08/27/2013) [-]
Wasn't it that Juliet pretended to kill herself, and Romeo thinking she actually died killed himself. Then when she woke up, saw him dead, also killed herself?
User avatar #42 to #37 - theimmortalbeaver (08/27/2013) [-]
Yeah, but it still basically boils down to stupid young people doing stupid things while swagging on YOLO.
User avatar #60 to #42 - awyissss ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
I would actually argue that the story is less about stupid, young ******** , but actually more about how discrimination between families can bring out the worst out of people and situations. The point of the play is less about romance but more about how because Romeo and Juliet were not allowed to flesh out their relationship because of the blind hate between the two families. It's actually a deeper story than just two teens who kill themselves. There's a reason why the play and the writer are so well known.
User avatar #72 to #60 - venoshto (08/27/2013) [-]
well, yeah, because there's a very easily-appliable moral to it. but still, i, myself, found the story pretty boring and the ending plot twist seemed really stupid to me.. you could argue that shakespeare was trying to bring back the whole "tragedy at the king's court" and hubris themes, but it just didn't seem to work with me. king lear was a really ****** badass play
User avatar #69 to #60 - fukkendragonite (08/27/2013) [-]
I like to that it is about the reader perception. There's always an air of that in Shakespeare. Is it a romantic tale and possibly the greatest love story ever told? Juliet was a much younger woman than Romeo remember? And it did end in tragedy.

Never take a Shakespearean tragedy at face value. Is Macbeth a story about following your dreams and making your wildest fantasies come true? Hell no, it's a story about how desire and jealousy for your fellow man will get people killed.

Maybe you're both right. Sure, they were stupid kids. He makes the reader well aware of this. But if it was not for their meddling families, nobody would have had to die. If they put their differences aside, things would have worked out for the better. Young people rebel against their parents, arguably that was all they were doing. Children don't know what's best for themselves, but their parents often don't know much better either. How can you know without being them anyway?

It's wonderful to think that one of the most famous love stories ever is actually very little to do with love. It's more about the decisions we make, and the psychology of the people involved.

THAT, my friends is the beauty of Shakespeare. So wondrously poetic and expressive, yet intensely complex in it's deeper themes. Makes me proud to be British- what a legend.

I don't type like that, ever, unless I'm texting a drug dealer. For some reason it feels pretentious to type in full sentences when he's not even coherent.

It saves barely any time. If you tried, you could type out a full sentence just as fast as a sentence like that.
When you type like that, I assume you're either prepubescent, or just an idiot.

Fun fact: "Wherefore art though Romeo?" doesn't actually mean "Where are you, Romeo?" Juliet is actually asking "Why are you Romeo?" as in, why are you from this family that I'm supposed to hate.

So I guess it outta be more along the lines of "lol y u an east side ***** romeo."
User avatar #29 to #23 - octaviano (08/27/2013) [-]
"Why are you my sister?" would be in a silmiar context.
User avatar #38 to #23 - toxicchameleon (08/27/2013) [-]
I thought Montague was the house name. If she was asking why he was of the opposing faction, would she not question his house name of Montague rather than his personal name of Romeo? If i've made some sort of mistake, please forgive my ignorance.
#44 to #38 - flyslasher ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
She basically says "Romeo( my love ), why are you Romeo( of the Montague house )?"

She looks at two different Romeo's in that sentence and is distressed by the fact that she has to make them the same person.
User avatar #70 to #38 - fukkendragonite (08/27/2013) [-]
Less "Why are you Romeo?" and more "Of all the people to fall in love with, why the **** did it have to be Romeo?"

So she's calling out asking "Why do you have to be who you are? Why couldn't you be someone else?"

It pisses me off when people use "Where are you, Romeo?" in place of "Wherefor art thou, Romeo?"
The latter means "Why are you Romeo?" (hence the "what's in a name?" spiel).
I don't know why I care so much. I didn't even like the story.

No, this is, at it's base, what happened. They were 13 (Juliet) and 15 (Romeo), knew each other for 3 days, and caused 6 deaths.
