I take my snake in the shower with me.

I also picked it up at lunch today and took it to school for 6th period. Nobody noticed, but it was nice to have a friend with me.

Yeah, I've always loved snakes.

When I move out, I'm gonna start breeding them as a hobby.
User avatar #24 to #22 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Snakes are pretty awesome, yeah. I love snaked, and also love dogs, soooo... I doubt snakes and dogs would get along.
#27 to #24 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Depends on the dog or snake.

I've got a mellow ball python and rainbow boa, and two chihuehues.

The snakes will occasionally try climbing on and smelling the dogs, and the dogs are a little scared but don't really overreact.

Most dogs are naturally afraid of snakes by instinct.

Well I have a mixrace, some german shepard, greyhound, probably husky and beagle, not entirely sure.. anyway, I'd love getting a snake at some point. What do you recommend... so for snake starter?
#29 to #28 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Depends what you want. Do you want an active snake that will roam around and wont enjoy actually being held, or do you want a chill snake that will hang on a perch or your neck?
User avatar #30 to #29 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Preferably a snake that won't strangle me in my sleep...^^

But seriously, I'd prefer one I can carry around without having to worry about it disappearing.
#32 to #30 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Alright, how big do you want it to be as an adult? Probably should pick something between 2 to 7 feet.

Also what is your favorite natural color you'd expect to see on a snake?
Stuff like grey, black, brown, gold, green?

For you so far I would suggest either a boa or a python that will grow to about 5 or 6 feet. Which would mean a ball python would be ideal. But if you want something other than that I can still help you.
User avatar #36 to #32 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Can be big, can be a bit smaller, but big enough so it can't be overlooked by anyone.

Ehh, the color doesn't really matter, as long as it isn't anything bright.. or red. I hate red.

Well, I don't know much about different breeds anymore (even though I held a big ass presentation about snakes once), so I'd like to know a bit more. Nothing specific, just what would be a good pet.
#37 to #36 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Well like I said, a ball python is the perfect beginner snake. They don't bite like... ever. They're like 6 feet long (more if you feed them often) Mellow, calm lethargic turds that chill with you.

For you it should probably be an arboreal snake, those are the calm ones that just chill in trees.

Things like kingsnakes are terrestrial so they just go wild and slither all over.

If you want a somewhat challenging snake, you could try a carpet python or rainbow boa. If you get them as a baby and handle them often, they don't grow up to be assholes. But if you neglect the snake, don't get mad when it bites you.
#38 to #37 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
That is all I need to know for now and will visit the local pet store soon.

Thank you.

One last bit of information. Its best to get from a breeder because you have a better selection, a person who is more likely to have taken good care of the snake before you receive it, and you get it for a better price.

For example, say you decide on a ball python. You go to a pet store like I did, and you get a mal-nourished half dead snake with health issues (Nursed him back because he broke my heart)

Or if you go to a breeder, and you want a ball python, but don't like the brown and gold colors, you can ask the breeder "Do you have any albino (white) or melanistic (black)?" and you can get one of those for more than the others, but still cheaper than they would be from a pet store, and in better condition.

Good luck, I hope you find a good snake for you.
User avatar #42 to #41 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Now the only problem is.. where to find a breeder... heee hehe he.. he..

Ehh, guess I need to take a look around the internet and such.

Once again, thank you. Always wanted a snake.

Guess I'm getting it.
User avatar #63 to #61 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Good luck man.

For future reference, when buying a snake in person always pay attention to key things.
If it has wrinkles when it bends its body it is underfed. Gently lift the scales on its stomach to check for little black mites, and look on the eyes for cracked scales (that means it has trouble shedding.)
User avatar #64 to #63 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Does underfed mean it didn't have enough space to move at its full extent?
User avatar #65 to #64 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
Underfed means it wasn't fed enough.
It's mal nutrition.

Mine was like that and I was lucky I could get it to eat when I got it.
User avatar #66 to #65 - greedtheavaricious ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
Ohh... now I see.

Though I doubt it will be malnourished with a caring breeder.
User avatar #67 to #66 - snakefire (08/27/2013) [-]
No of course not. The one I showed you looked in perfect condition.

But I mean for future reference, should you ever get another snake.

Well first off, I will need the money. And that means I need to wait til all the chefs return from vacation so I can apply.
