think what he has is "dog" eyes. Only certain people can have them.
In one episode Wilfred sees other dogs as people while Ryan only sees them as dogs.
There are other people that see Wilfred as a dog in a suit.

well, the character in the show kinda represses his feelings and emotions a lot. He never really lets anyone know what's going on in his life or solves his problems, that's why Wilfred is so essential to him. He begins to express himself more and more as the show progresses, and you can see it in his expresssoins as well.
I think it's intentional, though I could be wrong

i've never watched the australian version, but the american one isn't really that happy. Everything in his life goes to **** in most episodes, the only happy thing is he still has wilfred.

I love Wilfred but in Season 2 he acts too much like an actual dog than a human in a costume... I mean I understand he IS a dog.. but still. season 1 was intense.
