I have an argument against the comparison of Heath's casting and Ben Affleck's, but feel free to disagree with me.

The difference is that Heath Ledger had range. He played against type many times, and more often than not was successful in his portrayal. More often than not, you saw him in a role and took him as the character he was playing well enough.

Ben Affleck on the other hand? Every single role he's ever played was just Ben Affleck. He was never a character, he was always Ben Affleck. Sometimes it was good, a lot of the times it was bad, but he was always just Ben Affleck. You never saw him as his character, you saw him as Ben Affleck as that character. He's like Tobey MacGuire or Jake Gyllenhaal in that way.

I just don't think he has that range to play Batman successfully. Christian Bale had it, Michael Keaton had it(and dialed up Batman's darker aspects to 11 in Keaton's case), but Ben Affleck? No.

I think Tobey MacGuire is a good actor.

I am not saying Tobey MacGuire is a bad actor. Nor am I saying Ben Affleck or Jake Gyllenhaal are bad actors. What I'm saying is that they are pretty one-note, and play the same character in pretty much every movie they're in. I'm a huge fan of Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey, but let's face it, for the most part they play pretty much the same character in their movies.

I have seen both films. I have also seen a rather large portion of both actors' filmography, and I completely stand by my statements.
