I tried playing the original for about an hour after waiting 2 hours to download it at my friend's place. He had it in his possession for like, 5 ******* years and never played. Anyway, being a fan of the FO3 and New Vegas, hearing awesome things about the originals, reading about the originals on the Fallout Wiki and currently in the process of adapting it into a show i was fairly excited about finally playing it. Or course, having only played the console games, i had no ******* clue what i was doing during my playtime. I made it to the town after Shady Sands and was promptly murdered by two assholes in a bar i think. I hated playing it because it was so slow and so different from what i was used to and i was so ******* tired because it was maybe 3 in the morning, but honestly, i'd give it another go.

Fallout is based on starting out feeling weak until you level up and become powerful. It paces itself- it makes you earn your power. Fallout 3 and New Vegas handled this pretty well because although there were Super Mutants around, most enemies leveled with you. In the originals, you have to level up to progress.

The turn-based strategic battles are an acquired taste. It certainly isn't for everyone. The original Fallouts were thought-based, not fast paced reflexes and aiming like in the newer ones. The old ones are kind of outdated.

If you're still interested, you should be able to go into options and increase battle speed.

Fallout has a really slow start, but once you find your first Super Sledge, Shotgun or just anything other than that stupid weak ass pistol it get's way more fun.

Also, killing all the Raiders get's you so much money it's not even funny. And Ian is very useful for one of the first quests you get (Radscorpion Cave) so I suggest finding a way to get him. You can also go back to the vault to get some extra stuff to sell. Be sure to check everywhere for spare guns in the dungeons/caves. I found a Rifle in one of 'em and starting picking heads like crazy. I'm not finished with it yet, and I'm still annoyed by the damn count-down thing, but it's pretty fun.

Damn fine cRPG so far I think.
