My cat brings me these guys all the time in the summer. I think they're called hornworms? Anyway, last year I put some of the caterpillars in a container with some dirt and they turned into cocoons; they stayed like that all winter. Just a few weeks ago one turned into a fine looking moth.

Actually no, this Arsenura grows these "defensive horns" to mimic the Ophiocordyceps fungi.
