Silly OP. I didn't join for the money or anything like that. I did it for something that nobody can replace. Something that doesn't just happen by chance... I did it for the sexy as hell Marine Corps Service Blues.

Jack Reacher:

There are four types of people who join the military. For some, it's family trade. Others are patriots, eager to serve. Next you have those who just need a job. Than there's the kind who want the legal means of killing other people.

i know many people like this

it just makes me hate america when i see that their youth has so few and so ****** options after school, that many of them prefer going to war in a country far away from friends and family, rather than trying their luck finding a job or getting an education.

I think it's heroic that they're willing to risk their lives and limbs, even if it's only for a paycheck/free college.

I did ROTC throughout my 4 years of college because it was the only way I could afford to go. I know am an officer in the National Guard with a reserved spot to flight school. the Army gives to those who give to it, but some people do join because they have no other option

I'm joining the Marines after high school (end of this school year). Mainly because I'm a computer nerd and I would like to be somewhat in shape.
That and I would like to travel the world. I know another marine that got to go to Japan for 6 months...
I've checked and I can barely make the physical qualifications

I joined the Navy because I had no clue what I wanted to do with College and a career. I was at the end of my Senior year having been in NJROTC all four years of High School when a recruiter talked to me. Great guy, one of the coolest people I've met. Enlisted before I even graduated, left for boot 10 months later after shaping up with my recruiter and other enlistees. Looking at all my old friend's posts on Facebook and having talked to them a few times when on leave, I'd say I made a good choice.

Now I get to spoil my little sister to my heart's content since I have no bills and a steady paycheck.

I joined air national guard to pay for college. It was either four years or pay off student debt forever. Not a bad deal imo.

I'm joining for the steady pay, medical coverage, pension, paid education and opportunity to travel the world. No one joins just to be a hero. A hero is created out of necessity in a time of need. It's not like a movie where you slap on a uniform and become a hero. I find this to be comparable to serving in a conflict area. Anyone can say they will kill an enemy, but you will never truly know that until you are face to face with one.

I'm the only one of my friends who didn't go into the military, I'm going to college instead, I don't really see the point of joining before you get a degree, you're going in as an officer then with much better pay... I don't really plan on going but after you get a degree, in america at least, I hear its a great way to live, 20 years and you've got all you need to retire, insurance, doctors, etc.
