Let me get this straight. In your high school, they did not teach you what political parties are?? They did not teach you what taxes are?

Is that a common thing??

It surely would explain a LOT of discussions I've had on the Internet where I thought "Did that dude sleep through high school?"

In my state it just became a requirement that schools teach it, but before last year it was not required. Because of this a lot of students went through high school not taking the classes that taught this since they didn't have to. The schools generally offer courses in it though, even if people choose not to take them.

I love how when this post pops up everyone is suddenly "Oh wow, this guy is stupid. I learned all of this/ your parents are supposed to teach you."

I honestly agree with this post. It might be stupid as hell but I actually never learned anything about Taxes, Loans, banking, ect. in school and now that i'm a college student it's all screwing me over. School is supposed to help set you up for the real world/ future.

I really feel like 60% of my high school education was a waste.

In my school you have your core classes that were essentially what they are complaining about, but you had the choice of 4 other elective classes which have a large range of classes you can take. Many people though choose fun/easy classes over those which actually will help them in life.

I learned about taxes and loans in math, resumes in English, and car emergencies in Auto shop. I guess it varies from school to school.

I learned everything the post states, except about how to jump start a car, in school. I love Holland!
