Apart from the fact that New Zealand was selected as host and was contractually obligated to follow through with it since 2005? Not to mention there was 5.5 billion, from the 2011 budget alone, that went towards the Christchurch rebuild.

308 million actually goes nowhere near enough to rebuild christchurch. I live there myself, and I can tell you that for a certainty. Closer to 10 billion is what it needs. However, apart from the rose-tinted view I have of NZ when defending my home country, it is a dump and I honestly cannot wait to get out. I'd love to move to sweden.

And millions HAVE been spent on that sort of ****, and the money used for the world cup wasn't taken directly from what we were spending to rebuild chch. Christchurch isn't some broken city, we're carrying on just as we did before, except with more construction/demolition going on, and the inner city being closed off.
