I've gotten two Asian foreign exchange students in a row and I've learned to eat with chopsticks, and honestly i eat with them whenever i can now.

Plus my most recent on got me some really bad ass chopsticks that when put together form a dragon at the top.

Not that any of you care, i just felt like i could throw in my two cents.

Now, that's talent.

At most of the Asian restaurants I go to, you are offered a fork unless you specifically ask for chopsticks. This one time I went to a Chinese restaurant that was so authentic it was like I'd stepped through a portal that took me to straight to the continent when I crossed the threshold going in. I can't do **** with chopsticks so I asked for a fork, then this elderly lady glared at me with such intensity that I think I actually felt my soul burn.

Would it hurt to use some punctuation? I felt as if the person was frantically out of breath.

The problem is not that there are "fake asian restaurants" but that not every asian country uses chopsticks. For example in Thailand, they don't use chopsticks, so the rice you get in a Thai restaurant is not sticky (or at least it's not supposed to be). Every asian country has its own definition of what kind of rice is "good" - from the sticky short grain variety you get in Japan to the non-sticky basmati and jasmine rice in Thailand or Vietnam. If the latter is sticky, then it's not "good" but overcooked.

Of course, there are still people with the "all asians are the same" mindset who ask for chopsticks in a Thai restaurant, just to be "authentic". And of course, the restaurants always have chopsticks available for these people who will then complain about the ****** non-sticky rice.

I personally prefer eating with chopsticks for many foods. There's kind of an artform to how they work, as opposed to how a fork just stabs through food like a shank. Plus, unless you really know how to eat with them fast, you find yourself eating food with them slower, thus savoring it more.

Only problem is wood ones are disposable and reusable ones can be a bit annoying. Other than that, they really aren't that complicated to work.
