Oh we've been friends since infancy. We like to joke that we've been married for twenty years now and that we've bypassed the "honey moon" stage of our relationship by the time we learned to walk.
I only refer to him as a "friend" or a "romantic interest" because we live very far away from each other and neither of us felt like it was worth being exclusive to someone you couldn't be physically close to.
He said that to me when I fell mute. I've been very sick for a very long time and I took losing the ability to speak for a very hard. I was feeling really down on myself. So he told me that he loves me. He told me that he works hard everyday so he can learn and some day be able to devise a cure for me. He told me that he'll make me strong and healthy again. He'll do everything in his power to make sure that we live long, happy, comfortable years together. He told me he'll do this because I'm the only person he can ever love despite the hell I out him through every day of his life. Even if we aren't exclusive, he can't look at a woman without comparing them to me and because of that, they pale in his eyes because he knows that they're not me. He told me it may seem selfish but he works because he can't bare the thought of living a life without me. If I were to go, he'd lead a hollow and empty life simply because I'm not by his side. He told me because of this, I'm not allowed to die, at least, not until he and I are sitting beside each other in the year 2100.
Because I am mute, yes, all I did was look at him and smile but it was enough.

If you're curious, this Friday, he is actually coming up to visit me for a few days before college starts. On the first day he's here, I'm taking him to the beach so we can watch the fireworks together.

Perhaps, there always has to be a silver lining.
I was always the talker though. I like to explain things. I like to speak all sorts of languages. I used to act and I was very well known for my monologues, I even performed a monologue on Broadway (one bit of trivia I like, the theater I performed in appears in GTA IV) so I took the loss of my voice very hard.

I'd be a crappy mime. I've got a neurological disorder that makes me move my arms around a lot, it also renders learning sign language completely out of the question and makes typing very difficult.
I damaged something called the vagus nerve. It's one of the twelve cranial nerves. It helps you talk and it also aides in regulating your heart beat and breathing. I don't know how, win or why. I've been sick for a year before I fell mute so I haven't been going out very much or screaming particularly loud, in fact, for the past month before I fell mute I had a terrible stutter so I haven't been talking very much at all.
I just woke up one day and it was gone.

You confused me for a moment there. I thought you were someone who actually knew about the neurological disorder, if so you would have been the first person I ever randomly met who did.

PANDAS stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neurological Disorder Associated with Strep. The hallmark trait for PANDAS is sudden acute and debilitating onset of intense anxiety and mood liability accompanied by Obsessive Compulsive-like issues and/or Tics.

Wilson's Disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in which copper accumulates in tissues; this manifests as neurological or psychiatric symptoms and liver disease. It can be detected by spotting a little copper ring around the iris in your eye. It is often fatal.

Lyme Disease is a tick-born virus. It can cause severe neurological issues as well as heart problems, such as an irregular heartbeat, eye inflammation, liver inflammation, and severe fatigue.

You best not die from any of that ****. We'll picket your funeral with signs calling you a ****** and a admin. I just asked and what I have is a familial essential tremor, (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_tremor) so it only happens when I'm doing any activities with my hands. It also attributes to when I'm doing any weight lifting or am about to get in a fight. I'll also have full body shakes when I'm around a person I have feelings for. (I mean romantically) It can destroy my balance if it gets too bad.

Not even the WBC would be so cruel.
Not to worry, I'll never die of natural causes. If I were to perish it would be in combat. I imagine most likely with a group of assassins who felt threatened by my presence. When such a day comes, I wish for my body to be burned and have the ashes compressed into a red gem. That gem would decorate the hilt of a specially made sword. My first born son and rightful heir to my legacy will use that sword to avenge my death.

I imagine that can be excruciatingly annoying. It's bad enough feeling stressed without your body physically manifesting it.
I bet it also sucks as this indicates that people who know of your condition can read you like a book.

When I try to engage my vocal chords at all, my throat closes up and I can't breathe until I give up trying to speak. I get the same results when I cry or laugh as well.
I still practice everyday though. I can make all the dental-verbal sounds so that's good. I can at least call attention to myself when I need it.

As for the foods, quite the opposite. I have to follow a certain set of rules and one of the rules is that I can't eat anything warmer than room temperature. I don't know why I can't eat hot meals anymore, I just know that I can't do it.

Heat on a scar or open wound can **** it up extremely worse. But you've probably scarred your vocal chords. It may or may not heal. I guess the best you can do now is just carrying a dry erase board with you everywhere.

    Can't quite ignore this.
What I have is a weird neurological disorder. Well, it's more of a combination of different disorders. I've been diagnosed with Lyme, Wilson's and PANDAS.
My arms just twitch constantly through out the day. They don't slow down, they don't speed up. I can stop them but only for a second. It causes my intense physical pain when I do stop them and when they kick back up after the second, it does so with such force that I've actually been knocked off my feet a few times.
I can make a pretty kick ass milkshake by just holding the cup though, hell, I'm great if you need anything shaken.

I thought epilepsy was uniquely caused by flashing lights, this isn't the case?

There's something in your throat called the vagus nerve. It's one of the twelve cranial nerves. It helps you talk and it also aides in regulating your heart beat and breathing.
I somehow damaged that nerve. I don't know how, win or why. I've been sick for a year before I fell mute so I haven't been going out very much or screaming particularly loud, in fact, for the past month before I fell mute I had a terrible stutter so I haven't been talking very much at all.
I woke up one day and tried to say something to my mother. I couldn't get the sound out though. No matter how hard I tried, how loud I screamed, how hard I pushed, not a single sound could be heard. Instead, it felt like my throat closed up and I couldn't breathe until I gave up trying to speak.
It was one of the most shocking moments of my life.

Psh, if you're mute how come I can understand your comment? Sorry, had to

That's a great story. You two seem perfect for each other.

They should make a romantic film about you two.

    More from the Animated Series.
I found Arnold's depiction of the character to be pretty obnoxious.

I didn't know you were mute, I am sorry. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, and you both seem lucky to have each other. Enjoy the fireworks, and I hope you both live to 2100 together.

I didn't originally say I was mute, you had no way of knowing a back story I didn't divulge and I took no offense to it.
He is a nice guy. I'm glad and very lucky to have someone like him in my life. We drive each other nuts and our arguments can get pretty heated but even after two decades of putting each other through hell, we still talk, joke and enjoy the other's company.
Honestly, I don't think I'd quite know how to function without him.
We most certainly will enjoy the fireworks. I didn't tell him about them yet though. I'm going to let that be a little surprise.

Well, they say only the people you love can make you hate them. I have just one question, sorry if it is too personal, I'm an author of sorts, (More a hobbyist-writer) And Srapture gave me the idea to adapt a story out of this, what would you have said in response, if you could have spoken?

What would I have said to him?
I would have said that I felt the same. That I loved him before I knew that love was even a word that exists. I would have told him that it hurts that we can't be near each other yet but I felt like the luckiest person in the world simply because we can still talk and laugh. I would have apologized to him for being so mean to him over the years, teasing him, laughing at him but I would also honestly tell him that I'd never stop doing just that as long as I lived. I would have told him that it takes a special kind of guy to put up with that sort of crap and that I was really lucky to find just that guy so early in life. I would have agreed that dating others seems to be silly and a waste of time because I keep thinking in the back of my mind how he would have done something different or said something wittier or more idiotic.
Most of all I would have told him that he shouldn't be so worried about me dying or committing suicide and leaving him to live on this Earth alone because so long as I know that he's looking out for me, I'll always be right there next to him, looking out for him.

Sappy, I know, but it was a sappy moment. I was hurting so much and it made my chest warm when he said that to me.

And kudos to you for being a writer, I'm actually a bit of a writer myself, more so now that I can't talk.
    What do you write?

You just turned a grown man into a sobbing mess.

I hope everything turns out well for both of you. Good luck.

That is honestly one of the best stories I've ever heard. The fact that it's true makes it even better.
I'm a straight guy and I would marry that ******, but you already know how lucky you are so I guess I don't have to tell you that.

For me there's nothing better than getting to marry your own best friend.
My mother always told me that.
He and I live very far away from each other but we still grew up together. He knows everything about me but still loves me and wants to talk to me every night. I wouldn't trade him for anything.

    Thankyou.
I write a bit of this, a bit of that. I'm currently writing a 30's Noir Thriller/Mystery, it's coming along slowly, but well. Nice to see a fellow writer indeed, what do you write?

That sounds really interesting. I hope it turns out well for you.
I'm big in the realm of fantasy so most of my writing is geared towards that genre. The big project I'm currently working on is a novel series.

No, I haven't officially published anything yet but one of my fairy tales is actually going to make an appearance in a book of short stories very soon. I'm very excited for it.

Interesting, I do love fantasy, but I cannot write it myself, my imagination gets ahead of itself a little.
