When elements at the molecular level "melt" or "burn" it's actually referred to as plasma, which is the fourth "state" of matter. The others being sold, liquid and gas (vapour).

At least I think that's right.

basicly what happened is the protons and neutrons fell apart and as you said, turned into QGP which is Quark Gluon Plasma.
