I work at a Chick-Fil-A...
All that I've learned is that some, if not most, people can be straight up assholes for no reason.
This happened to me a week ago:
>be in drive through
>guy pulls up
>Me: "Hello, it's $6"
>Me: ".... Right, so a #1 meal... It's $6."
>Him: "AAAND?!?!"
>Me: "I have nothing else here?"
>Me: "Sure thing... We've just got a 40 second wait on fries."
>45 second later, person on fries is shoving fries into box
>guy rolls down window
>guy is screaming so hard, his entire face is red
>guy is screaming so hard he starts to thrash back and forth, shaking his car in anger

story of mine:
>be me, age 17 just started a new grocery job
>this is like my 3rd shift and i work in the meat department
>kinda shy around people but I need the money
>be stocking shelves in frozen burger area (next to dairy, which is not in meat)
>be doing job, minding my own business
>hear a banshee scream "REALLy??"
>look behind me
> see a 40 some year old lady with like 'little girl' pigtails and wearing an outfit for like a 7 y old
>'Can I help you mam?' I say in the most polite way
>'Sorry mam I'll go quickly check in the back. (mind you its like an hour before closing and the busy rush already happened)
>with the most rude voice ever she yells at me 'OR I COULD GO TO ANOTHER STORE! THANKS FOR NOTHING! WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS ASS HOLE'
> she storms off and i have no ******* clue what just happened
>I look in the dairy fridge
>guess whats right in the front
> mother fudging 3.25% milk
> I hate people.

Don't need to practice that ability. I'm British.

agree wholeheartedly

not that the job taught me anything - i actually grew up in an italian family so i was already used to being screamed and bitched at and not being allowed to respond sans whoopin

i was so used to it in fact that one day at work a manager comes up and hands me a gift certificate and employee of the month for "putting up with an obnoxious customer and making them leave with a smile" and i didnt even notice

MFW i not only had no idea who they were talking about but was also drunk at the time

Funny, the only thing five years of retail did to me is make it so I'm not going to allow myself to take that sort of **** laying down anymore.

>work for tile delivery service
>can't park near customers house
>park across the street
>customer tells me to lift tiles to bedroom up 2 flights of stairs
>bedroom full of model trains
>mfw I have to lift 600kg of tiles across street and upstairs whilst customer stands there discussing model railway collection

Yes, everyone should work a job where they are taken advantage of, where they are forced to give a false smile, a false personality, only to have all that anger build up and be released after work by being a ****** , stressed out, smoker, drinker, and overall people hater. OP obviously has never worked a job in retail before. You're nice because you get a paycheck, not because you are a kind person.
User avatar #62 to #60 - azraelthemage (08/01/2013) [-]
OP apparently thinks that working retail makes people kinder. In reality, it turns you into a two faced son of a bitch.

1 year in retail, 1 year in foodservice
If every person did these, the world would be a MUCH better place.

worked at a pizzaria regina, and a guy came up and ordered a large cheese. after a while, I saw him coming back up with it. "Yes sir, what can I do for you?". He begins to yell about how ****** the pizza was saying "Cmon, you guys are better than this". I politely ask to see the pizza, and he opens the box. There were 2 slices left. "Sir.. this pizza is nearly all eaten... are you positive that it was not satisfactory?" He begins to flip out saying it was the worst pizza he ever had and demands his money back. Manager comes out front and starts yelling at me for giving the customer a hard time. The manager gives the guy a full refund, asks me to apologize which I do politely, and sends me to the back to do dishes the rest of the night. MFW I finally left at the end of the night.

I hate it when people ask me "where's this item?"....when they just walked right past it without making an effort to look, AND IF THEY JUST ******* LOOKED IN THE SECTION IT'D MOST LIKELY BE YOU WOULD'VE SEEN IT!!! JESUS ******* CHRIST!!!

As a guy who worked at McDonalds for a month and a half, I can confirm the truth of this statement.

The best way to deal with an asshole is to just stay calm and be polite. They'll just keep yelling and since you just keep being nice and pleasant they're the ones who will look like a total dickhead in front of anyone who happens to be nearby

Any McDonald's folks in here?
Customer: "I'd like a snack wrap"
Me: "Sure. Grilled or crispy?"
Customer: "Yea."
Customer: "What can I get that's healthy?"
Customer: "Can I get a coffee with my combo?"
Me: "Sure, what size?"
Customer: "Whatever size it comes with...?"
Customer: "I'd like a Big Mac Combo."
Me: "Sure."
Customer: *Stares at receipt* "I thought the drinks were a dollar?"
Customer: "Can I get another burger? Mine was dry/wrong/weird-tasting etc."
Me: "No problem... Where is the burger?"
Customer: "I ate it."
Customer: "My burger doesn't look like the one in the picture..."
Long story short, if you're unsatisfied with your experience as a customer either:
A. You don't know how to order
B. You expect too much from a fast-food restaurant.
