There are 2 reasons that ********* was illegal.
1: In 1930 a man named Harry J. Anslinger made ********* illegal by saying that it made white women want to sleep with blacks.
2: Big lumber corporations saw that hemp could be used as a cheaper source to manufacture paper and ran a smear campaign against the plant.
