Holding doors just makes things awkward, they can move a few inches to keep the door open themselves. It does not hurt. Only reason to hold the door is if the person approaching is carrying something.

you dont have to let them pass you, but you should hold the door for an extra half-second to make it easier for them to grab it

I like to be a giant dickface by holding the door open for people far away and making them do a little jogging skip, while I smile at them politely.

....Maybe it's because I'm British, the way I lash out at people is with passive aggressive politeness. Like if there are builders disrupting my street, I'll wait until they've just finished a cup of tea offered by a neighbour, then I'll go out and offer them another. They cannot say no! They must accept the tea! They shall burst from the over excessive tea drinking! They will have to ask someone if they can use their bathroom! The height of embarrassment! The caffeine will also keep them slightly buzzed all night and make it difficult to get to sleep! And I'll offer them slightly stale biscuits with it, so they're already soft and are more likely to break off in their tea! Mwahahahahaha!

I hate it when people hold doors for me. Makes me feel like I owe em something. And I hate saying thank you. Or making eye contact.

Most people say "thank you," but sometimes when I do this, they just glare at me or walk by without acknowledging me. MFW

I hate it when you have the door open for them, then they try to push it open even more. Was my job of holding it open not up to par with your standards?

That's my problem, if it's crowded I'll hold keep holding the door for anyone that's close by so I'll end up standing there for ten minutes.

I once held the door open for a long line of people coming into a building after their lunch break. I stood there for 7 minutes. The only kid who said thank you was a special-needs kid.

Just push the door open behind you, if they are close enough they will get to it before it closes and if they are too far back then it would be weird to stand there holding it open anyway.
