When I was told the truth I wasn't upset at all. I just asked, "will i still get presents?" They said yep and I was like, "cool." Guess I was a very materialistic child

My kid isn't getting any gifts, so I don't care whether he/she likes him or not.

I don't see anything wrong with gifts, it's an ancient ritual that goes way back, and "materialism" isn't evil.

My family for example has always been pretty ****** , and if it wasn't for the "material" I would have had no real joy growing up, hell I don't know if I even be here. An internet connection, computer, and games did more for me than family ever did... unfortunately.

At any rate, my advice to you is to buy different kinds of gifts. Like stuff that can be used on family activities, fishing rods, maybe amusement park tickets, you know, experiences. And maybe some thoughtful things. I'm not trying to tell you how to raise your kids, but you know, I guess I like the concept of gifts. I don't see why you have to disclude one for the other, in a more perfect world whynotboth.jpeg

Or you could not lie about it in the first place.

I'm seeing a lot of comments about not celebrating X-mas. I can respect that though I disagree with it. But then there's the people that don't celebrate anything. My brother doesn't celebrate birthdays. Why the **** not? It's like winning a contest or game show. "You've survived another round anon. Show him what he's won Johnny!"

I am not a believer, but i celebrate Christmas as a joyful family celebration, I mean heck most of the celebration is pagan anyways. Trees indoors, presents, snowmen, santa, etc. None of those are really christian or religious at all.

I stopped believing in Santa a long time ago but I still get really excited by the notion of him or Christmas in general.
I still leave cookies out for Santa. Even if I end up eating them myself I like to come down Christmas morning, look at all the crumbs left on the plate and pretend he ate them. I also like to take a pair of snow boots, cover them in soot and walk around the house a bit to pretend he was there (and to have an excuse to track soot through the house).
It's a little bizarre, I know but the magic of every holiday is so appealing to me that I go a little above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to feeding the legends.

My parents never tolerated the notion of their children giving credit to some legend for their presents. So I never really believed in Santa, I just knew that other children believed in him...and secretly laughed at them with my parents. Now that I think about it my parents are heartless egotistical pricks...
