Anyone who is a Whovian understands this. The joke was saying see a doctor and connecting it to The Doctor. How can you be that literal to where if they say "a doctor" you feel it can't be used to connect to The Doctor? They've done it in the show for christ sake, plenty of times! I think people just don't like the idea of that because it gives Whovians an excuse to use the reference anytime there is the mention of Doctors.

you whovians are using any excuse to make a who reference. for christ's sake, anything that loosely resembles anything from the show is a who reference for you guys and an excuse to spam this **** everywhere. "err mah gerd this guy is a human! a side character from dr. who is a human! obvious dr. who reference!"

I believe the connection was made because of Space Battles. Which involve aliens, which would take their mind to Doctor Who is the word Doctor is used in the content as well. So I see why the was made. And I myself made the same though when I had finished reading it

Again the common misconception that space battles would not be heard in a vacuum. I blame lazy science teachers of the "Don't think about what I tell you" variant.

Imagine you are in a spaceship and another spaceship explodes a few miles away. There will be a large amount of debris which will travel through space at a very high speed. It will hit the outer hull of your spaceship, and then you will actually hear the explosion. Yes, sound waves have travel through a medium, but an explosion in space would essentially create its own medium.

So it would not sound like in a science fiction movie, but there most definitely would be some kind of sound.

And if a spaceship or some kind of bomb exploded not too far above our atmosphere, shockwaves created by pieces of debris would hit our atmosphere and would possibly create sound waves.

But it would not be heard in the same classical way we think of sound. Also, wouldn't the sound dissipate or distort in the debris by the time they reached you? They would sound at very least different

There's no oxygen or matter to vibrate, which is what makes sound to begin with.

now here is a question say we finally can travel in space and we pick a fight with another ship will it make a noise when one ship explodes since ships, planets, asteroids, and meteors are made of matter?

The people on the ships will be able to hear it. They have to be connected by some kind of matter. They won't hear the other ship exploding though.

if the ship contained a large amount of air, when the ship exploded would you not be able to hear it through the air, if you were in another ship nearby or in space itself? (sorry if a dumb question just wondering)

The air would escape too quickly through the vacuum of space. People within a short distance would be able to hear, but unless the other ship was 5 feet away you wouldn't hear it explode.

Sound travels through matter. It needs some kind of matter within a short distance. By short, I mean in atoms. If it was 5 feet away the explosion would send particles over to the other ship for a few seconds allowing the other ship to hear it, but I highly doubt a space battle will take place with the ships 5 feet apart. Unless they were ramming each other.
