This man speaks the truth. But you must admit quiting drugs isn't easy, it's one of the hardest thing.

He doesn't know what it's like to be addicted. If he knew he wouldn't be saying his words.

I choose not to drink (alcoholic parents, decided I don't want to take that road), so I have literally never had alcohol. When I tell people that I always get "Dude, you haven't lived" or "You don't know what you're missing out on". They also always pressure me to drink.

So now I tell people I'm 5 years sober and they respect me and leave me alone.

It's completely a person's fault if they get addicted. If they never did ****** /crack/PCP in the first place, they wouldn't have a problem to resolve.

Case closed.

I love Ricky Gervais but he should ask himself this question. In other words, people respect others who overcome their adversities not just avoid them.

What is better - to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?

I was really confused because I first read it as, "No round of applesauce for that, though?"

I must be hungrier than I thought....

Because it's harder to overcome an addiction than to not become addicted in the first place. Ricky is funny and all, but this is just him being a douche for the sake of being a douche.

Yeah but if you would have never used then you wouldn't be addicted. You shouldn't be congratulated for ******* up and then restoring things to normal

Society does not praise for change, society changes for praise. Praise is what drives people to change, it is the incentive, that is WHY people change. If a man is addicted to ******* and goes through a change to relieve his addiction, then he did it for another's praise. If he cared about himself, he wouldn't have done the **** in the first place. Praise is the underlying psychological currency that runs the world, that is why many want fame and fortune, because with that comes recognition and praise.

He's less of a comedian, and more of a public social worker.

I'm not sure what's more funny, the fact that you remembered, or the fact that you've been holding out a grudge all this time

Humans have a desire for redemption. Whether to see it in themselves or others. This is why stories are so good. If everything was fine all the time, it would be a terrible story, but when things are **** and then get better, it's a great story.

He's an ******* . My brother was a ****** for many years and it took a great deal of effort for him to recover. We don't applaud the fact that he's an addict but the fact that he was strong enough to get himself out of that hole.

I think someone giving up herion should be applauded
I've never done it (and never will) but I've been around people that have done it and tryed to give up my whole life and only a small amount of them are able to make it though it

and even then it takes 20 years to completely kick a herion addiction (Alot of people relapes in the last 5 years)

But why do some of the lines have quotations and others dont...

The ones in quotes are scenarios.
Like he's straw-manning the crowd.
Or in even simpler terms, he's pretending to be someone else when it's in quotes.
