most viruses are made with a purpose.

like advertisment companies would inject a trojan virus to get information from you so they can make ads accordingly.

i once had this fake anti virus software that tried to install itself on my computer, wouldnt let me access chrome and said i had to buy their thing or it wont delete. i found the key online and all was great

Not ''viruses'' in the sense of traditional viruses like people know them as.
For a virus to successfully infect OSX, is if you actually let it through. There are security checks for major programs attempting to access your hard drive / system files before they do so, and you have to enter your password when these security checks happen to make sure it's safe, but if you're quite frankly, stupid, and download something questionable then yeah, a mac can get a virus, but only because of a human's willing, not due to the flaw in tech.

You just described Windows UAC and *nix privilege separation. All of these, including OSX's, while powerful, can still be bypassed without the user's knowledge if not all security practices are followed to a tee (which is almost all of us). The virus may not even need to be bypass it.

Macs don't have viruses because nobody wants to waste their time writing a virus for a computer that has less than 10% of the market share.

I don't mind macs, it's iTunes I hate. You have to know exactly what you're doing to change their music to mp3s. And you have to open the iTunes library in windows explorer (as in, view the actual folder in your computer) to copy music to stuff. iTunes just tries to make it hard to work with non-iDevices

No, I use a pc. But I have iTunes on the family computer, but not on my laptop/personal computer. You know that iTunes has technically fit the description of some sort of virus in the past? It's because they had an update where they installed Safari, their web browser, without having an option to disable it, and without even telling you they're installing it.

Basically, Apple just acts like they can do whatever the **** they want, even if it's illegal.

two major things
1.) the price... for the same as a mac, you can build your own windows/Linux computer for half that, and it'll be three times, if not more, powerful than the mac
2.) the OS is locked down super tight, not allowing many programs and games. for basic children needs, it's ok, but for anything requiring customization (beyond the desktop background, or the screensaver), windows/Linux is better

tl;dr mac sucks

macs tend to be better for inexperienced users or people used to design programs. they have higher resolution retina display screens, are often times lightning fast due to the hard-drive differences (on the macbook air series, whish does not have a disk hard drive). the cons are mac os is locked down as ****, so nothing considered unstable by the os will run. it hates java and flash, and many other common programs, because the developers try to prevent computer crashes, and so dont allow for errors to occur. this means youre virus free, but it means you have to do a lot of work to change basic settings and features. mac laptops are also far more expensive, but nowadays youre paying quite a bit for the screen and a few other features (like applecare, which is a pretty damn good warranty system). i was on macs for years through school because of the stuff we were doing, but i switched to pc for raw power and cost.

What bugs me the most about macs is the price point. My $1000 laptop pc would easily be twice that in a mac. Not only do they get away with charging such obscene prices, but people take the price as proof that the computer is better for some reason, when in reality they're mostly equal in terms of hardware and OS speed. As for the complexity, I love being able to access and modify my system files, I would argue that mac oversimplifies things, but that comes down to opinion.

Listen up cos I'll make it real simple.

I have a touch screen acer with windows eight and 4 gbs of memory that does all that and more. It cost me 500 bucks.

Now for me to get a mac with the same specifications, I would need to triple that number.

Simplicity might be good, but I'm paying less for more rather than more for less, which is what mac and apple does. The logic is simple- do you want to pay 1500 for less or do you want to pay 500 dollars for more?

Also, a lot of what apple does with its technology is a scam. I'm currently in a household that despises macs with a passion because of all the money needed to be spent to get a cd onto an ipod, when it costs absolutely nothing to do the same with an MP3.

Counter that, analtrauma.

the thing is that macs are produced for the kind of people that don't know very much about using a computer and don't intend on learning anytime soon. windows does not overcomplicate everything it gives you the power to actually do something productive.
mac is like a ball you can kick it arond all you want and it's a good ball but it will always be just a ball, pcs are like legos they can be anything you make of them if you can figure out how to connect two bricks.

People that don't intend on learning any time soon and don't know much?
Dude, OSX ( the mac's operating system for the ignorant people out there ) is eons more advanced technologically and has a far higher capability in literally every aspect than windows could ever hope to imagine.

OSX has more efficient multi-core handling, better capabilities when it comes to video and moving editing, a faster and more fluid UI for everyone to enjoy with far more perks and useful quirks about it, and not to mention the endless amount of audio editing, creation and things you can do with it; and thats just the arts section of things. Due to the more efficient core handling you can play vidya games and get far better performance from that alone, in combination with OSX's ability to easily be compatible with any graphics card that's actually worth buying.

As far as coding capabilities go, my brother is currently creating websites and managing servers from his single Mac Pro, and making copious amounts of cash.
Oh, and before you even comprehend it, we got our Macintosh computers before more money was blown in our direction simply due to the ability to coherently shop.

Mac's come off inherently expensive because people don't take the time to actually adjust what they're buying and just automatically ''lolnope'' because of stupid crap they've read and heard on the internet.

tl;dr, people need to use their brains more, have an open mind, and quit being raging fanboys over one thing in particular because its mainstream or the most popular.

On modern Andriod phones you can even get simple java compilers and code your own apps directly from the phone.

You can build a way better system if you wanted to for a price of a mac. Also, if you really want iOS you can install that too. Effectively making a better mac and cheese.

>better capabilities when it comes to video and movie editing
It is as if people who work with video, photos and audio are born with a passion for macs. But why would mac be superior? You can definitely get better hardware in a custom-built pc. Sure it would require some fiddling with drivers and hardware, but that is all part of the learning experience.
Maybe it is the GUI of OSX graphic designers like so much, I honestly do not know. But the fact is that it is an opinion, thus subjective and not a valid argument against other operating systems.
> As far as coding capabilities go, my brother is currently creating websites and managing servers from his single Mac Pro, and making copious amounts of cash.
Yeah as if a simple ftp client, editor and SSH client require 90% of the system's resources. Nothing an OS besides OSX can't do with the same efficiency.
tl;dr: every operating system has its own ups and downs, which makes them fit for different situations.

Tony Stark uses a Mac monitor, and that much only because Apple paid the film production a **** ton of money for product placement.

No, he's smart. Let's be honest. But seeing as how he probably modded the **** out of it, it's not like a normal mac so I guess I should say that he purchased a mac, rather than he uses one. I don't think there's a "Make an iron man suit app" so liking Stark and hating Macs can still happen.
