technically thor isn't a god, he's just an alien from another dimension who primitive humans mistook for a god.
User avatar #59 to #19 - xyxoz (07/21/2013) [-]
What would you consider a god, and how would it differ from an alien?
#43 to #19 - John Cena (07/21/2013) [-]

Isn't the main difference between Jews and Christians that Jews don't believe that Jesus was the son of God?
#61 to #1 - highfocus (07/21/2013) [-]
Yes but dude i think you also would be pretty suprised if you'd see jesus

toasts doesnt count
#62 to #1 - John Cena (07/21/2013) [-]
except people who believe he existed and was God are Christians.

So it's still odd for a jew to have met Jesus i this day and age and still remain Jewish.

Man you're dumb if you can't form such a simple logical connection.
#2 to #1 - John Cena (07/20/2013) [-]
but he died, Jews don't think he has come back and Christians do

mostly because jesus strolled in, told the jews they were 100% wrong in their prophecies, pissed the romans off royally, and the jews still got the blame at the end of the day. Christianity didn't even exist until hundred of years after the whole jesus fiasco, they were just outcast jews
User avatar #32 to #22 - jokeface (07/21/2013) [-]
He didn't tell them they were 100% wrong. He just told them to take it easy with the strict rules and rituals because He was going to redeem them. He could do that because He was their God, just in human form.

"Hey guys, know how there's only one true G-d? Yup, well that's me. Well it's my dad actually, but still me. Anyway, I'm gonna need you guys to pray to me know and I shall die for your sins!"
"So you're the messiah?"
"But to be the messiah you would have to brings all the Jews to Israel and end all war and suffering."
"Nope. Still G-d."
And that, ladies and gentleman, just gave you a brief summary that probably left out 50 things, but that's pretty much the gist of why Jews don't believe in Jesus.
User avatar #54 to #52 - jokeface (07/21/2013) [-]
First of all, why are you censoring God's name? And second of all, where did you get the idea that the Messiah was supposed to do that stuff? The Earth was cursed, remember? Even the Jews are in agreement on that. War and suffering on Earth can never end until the world itself ends.
User avatar #68 to #54 - miklthepikl (07/21/2013) [-]
well, he got the idea from the jewish prophecies, made by Ezra about the messiah for one... Funny enough, the Jesus portrayed in revelations better suits the Jewish myths

Jews do believe that Jesus existed. They just don't think he's really the son of god.

At least I think that's how it was. I might be wrong.
User avatar #58 to #55 - ponypro (07/21/2013) [-]
Jesus was jewish too, right?
User avatar #65 to #58 - noblexfenrir (07/21/2013) [-]
Yeah, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all basically the same religion with certain branch-offs in relation to their prophets.

Judaism is the old testament and they are still waiting for the messiah. They view Jesus as simply a prophet and nothing more.

Christianity has the old testament laced with the teachings of Jesus Christ (Although unlike what many christians will tell you, the old testament does still apply since it's orders and commands from the same god and nothing changed but oh well.), and view him as the messiah and the only path to heaven.

Islam is a relatively newer religion, and as a result also believe Jesus was just a prophet, while believing Muhammad is the *final* prophet. So they have the benefit of both previous beliefs already being fully pledged out, as the bible did with the "Prophecies" Jesus brought to fruition.

Loki is a Jotunn, not an God even in Norse mythology.
User avatar #39 to #30 - danilawleit (07/21/2013) [-]
Only half Frost Giant, Thor is too.
User avatar #40 to #39 - anonymoose (07/21/2013) [-]
No. Loki is a full Jotunn (which aren't frost giants). Thor is half Jotunn.
User avatar #48 to #40 - hisnameisjake (07/21/2013) [-]
Arent Jotunn just a different kind of god? Sorry if im wrong, Norse mythology isnt my specialty
User avatar #49 to #48 - anonymoose (07/21/2013) [-]
The Gods are the AEsir and the Vanir. The Jotunn are large brutish mythical humanoids (often called giants even though they were only slightly taller than humans).

not excactly. Thor is not half jotunn (jotne) he is son of Odin and Jord. and not only is he fully a god, he is the second mightigest god after Odin. you are right on Loki though

The following is a philosophical thought experiment by a guy who is half-asleep.
People seem to say that Asgardians are not Gods. Well what else would God/Gods be? Magic? Wasn't the fact that 'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic' one of the major themes of Thor (and therefore, the Avengers). On a more philosophical note, It seems society's definitions for Gods continuously changes as our technology advances, I mean show someone from the medieval era today's world and they would think of us as Gods. This makes it difficult to classify something as a "God" forever, Asgardians were once considered God. Even if a being came down that was powerful enough to be a God, hundreds of years from now the definition of God might change and the being might be simply called a being with advanced tech. At this point the term God would be referring to any being with a level of technology/magic that is greater than our own, therefore the word "God" is a temporary title bestowed on a level of tech we don't understand yet, and eventually any God we meet will become nothing more than another being. This does raise the issue that we could reach the level of Godhood imagined by the authors of most holy scriptures (I'll have to do research but we might have already reached that level in some religions). We could be Gods and not even know it.

tl;dr. Philosophical thought experiment. You may carry on.

Jesus was Jewish ?
User avatar #31 to #24 - jokeface (07/21/2013) [-]
Correct. In fact so were the people who started Christianity. Back then "Jews" just referred to people who worshiped the Hebrew God. And Jesus and His disciples fell into that category. Some people even today argue that Christianity is a type of Judaism. But that's mostly disputed since they've become so different in their customs and intricacies.

Demi-gods, and there is an entire civilization of the Azgaurdians in the Thor movie. So yeah according to the movies Loki and Thor are viewed as Demi-gods but are really a powerful race of aliens nown as the Azgaurdians.
User avatar #15 to #14 - nyangiraffe (07/21/2013) [-]
Demi-god. Child of a god. That kinda means they still should have their beliefs shaken because that person is the child of god. And Thor was a full god.
User avatar #73 - blamie ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Actually they met 2 advanced aliens, just they were called gods because they were advanced.
