MB: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
GPU: Intel i7 970
RAM: 12GB Triple-channel DDR3 @ 674MHz
GPU: 2x nVidia GeForce GTX 570 1280MB (SLI)
SSD: 128 GB Corsair Force Series GS
HDD: 1TB Western Digital something-something

Admittedly not the most powerful rig ever, but considering everything except case, SSD and power supply are over 2 years old, its not so bad.

Is it.. hard to build a gaming computer? I've always wanted to, but I'm not exactly good at that sort of thing. Just interested! Would be really cool to be able to make one some day.
User avatar #74 to #64 - sacanawa (07/21/2013) [-]
no, pretty easy

just like putting lego pieces together

and instead of using your imagination on where to put them, each one of them goes into a different slot

and all the slots are different so even if you dont look them up online, you will know where to put something

also there's no fear with static ****

i've tried to fry my computer by not doing any of that **** you're supposed to do 10 times and nothing happened
#73 to #64 - anonymous (07/21/2013) [-]
And the whole discharging of static electricity from your hands to components, destroying hundreds of dollars of your **** ...but, yeah. Go look up safety stuff before doing it.
#65 to #64 - maphrox (07/21/2013) [-]
It's really just a matter of plugging the right wires in the right places, and otherwise knowing where the big parts go. Once you get over the fear of ruining all the expensive bits, the biggest problem is sore fingers from handling small, sharp objects.
User avatar #66 to #65 - maddingcrowd (07/21/2013) [-]
Ah I see! I've always loved the idea, there's a sort of pride within the idea of building your own computer. Thanks!

Intel Ivy Bridge @ 3.8Ghz

Asus Motherboard P8Z77-V LE PLUS LGA115

16GB Dual Channel DDR3 GSkill

EVGA GTX 670 2GB

Could've bought a cheaper more powerful build but I guess this will do.

Didn't know I was called 'other people'

Intel i7-2600K @ 4.8GHz w/ Noctua D14
ASUS P8P67 B3 w/ 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz
AMD HD 6950 2GB @ 850MHz
Corsair Force GT 120GB x2 RAID 0 + 1TB WDC Black
Coolermaster SilentPro 1000W
Fractal Design Define XL
BenQ GL2450HM x2, Logitech G5 Blue, G15 Blue and Z523 speakers

Overall very pleased with my system. Only thing I would consider upgrading would be the GPU, since moving to a i7-4770K would only yield a 20% increase in performace, if I could even get it stable at 4.8GHz.

oyoy, might as well post my recent build:

corsair force 3 ssd 120gb
2tb 7200rpm WD ext hd for games n stuff
corsair cx 600
nzxt hades case
I get about 50fps on metro last light benchmark with everything max apart from ssaa and physx.

I ordered my new PC and I still need some speakers

How much are yours? (not buying, I just want some like yours)
#48 to #47 - OllieArmageden (07/21/2013) [-]
These?

When I got them like £35 or $48ish. They are good for gaming, reasonable and adjustable bass. There is a speak on the back of each one too.
User avatar #49 to #48 - TheBigGummyBear ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Oh that's good as, by the way my current speakers don't work because the tip of my logitech 3.5mm jack tip fell off and I've lost it, is that the sort of thing I can buy a replacement for at an electronic store or something

Yeah you should be able to. Its only 2 wires, if yours are 2/2.1. You could even sacrifice old headphones to fix them!
#44 to #35 - anonymous (07/21/2013) [-]
Who the hell uses an AMD processor...
#93 to #44 - anonymous (07/21/2013) [-]
Someone doesn't know much about computer.. If you don't want to empty your entire wallet for a processor, AMD beats Intel anytime of the day. If you can afford Intel, it'll be better, but for what most people use their computers, paying the extra for Intel is a complete waste of money.
#101 to #93 - OllieArmageden (07/21/2013) [-]
Exactly! I started of with an FX-4170, a 4.2Ghz Quad. and a top end motherboard. After a few month I realised I required more multithreaded power. Already had a £160 Mobo, so another £160 went of the FX-8350. Rather than spending £270 on an i7 + £200 on a similar motherboard.Yes I might not be getting i7 single threaded performance, but its still a beast of a machine and I didnt spend another £470, just £160.

Also, forgot to mention. I have a Corsair H80 with 2 Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm fans in push/pull keeping it cool!

Though this damn UK weather has made me drop the clocks on the 8350 and underclock the GPUs below the Manufacture OC.
#45 to #44 - OllieArmageden (07/21/2013) [-]
Bang for buck the FX-8350 beats the 3770K hands down. But for extra performance go intel, you just pay over the odds for the extra performance.

x2 as in its a dual core, part of its name, or you have two of them?
User avatar #29 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Well, as long as everyone else is doing it:

Intel core 2 quad q9450
8gb ddr2 800
320 gb 7200 rpm hdd
geforce gtx 650 ti

Suck on my lga775 power!
#43 to #29 - anonymous (07/21/2013) [-]
Who the **** still has a core 2 quad?...
User avatar #53 to #43 - jiniix (07/21/2013) [-]
C2Q is still a great platform. Even the dual core chips are good.
I own a Q6600 and a couple of E7200s. All perform well and stay incredibly cool, even with stock coolers.
Overclocks like a boss too. My Q6600 overclocks from 2.4GHz to 3.2GHz with only a 0.05-0.1v increase over stock volts, and easily does 3GHz on stock volts.
The E7200s go from 2.53GHz to 2.99GHz on stock volts too, and I have reached 3.6GHz on several of my chips.
Socket 775 is amazing
User avatar #104 to #53 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (07/21/2013) [-]
Yep. I've got mine oc'd to 3.2, making it basically the same chip as the c2x qx9770. And I had an e7300 up until about three weeks ago when I found out that it wouldn't play far cry 3 on any settings. So, since I only put $500 into the computer to start, I dropped another $200 on it to make it play modern games again.

It amazes me that people don't realize that processors have been leveling out over the last several years, not really having the ridiculous performance boosts over the previous generations that they used to. They've added on board graphics and changed the die size, but the clocks are what, like 800 mhz higher? I won't have to upgrade again for another three years with this setup, and I'm happy about that lol.
