The statue of liberty was designed by Gustave Eiffel as the personification of liberty which he saw as a strong female character.

Is that Harriet ******* Tubman? Are you stupid?
User avatar #100 to #95 - Ruspanic ONLINE (07/19/2013) [-]
It's not Harriet Tubman, but it's also not the original statue of liberty. It's a statue of a Caribbean woman in St. Maarten, which is only a few years old. I think her dress is actual cloth, which would have been unheard of in the 19th century when the Statue of Liberty was designed.

But the statue of liberty was originally copper?
#119 to #86 - steeedan (07/19/2013) [-]
It definitely was copper! Still is. Copper starts off as the typical brown colour but due to oxidization it turns into the green colour that is the statue of liberty.

i didnt know it was made of copper. i suppose we can let that slide for a canadian though right?

You can let it slide for anyone. You can only ever learn something if you don't already know it, pretty hard to know something you don't know.

Yeah exactly, so that would make it brown, not white.

Yea but according to this guys logic if the "original" one is the original one then it could just be made out of something else. Making your original question redundant. Not that that was my intention in my first comment.
****** words man.

Not sure where you're getting your information but the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France intended to symbolize American freedom and to welcome immigrants to the country that would take anyone. It had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with slavery or the abolishment of slavery. She is the artists literal vision of liberty.

The one on the left is in France today, but the original statue of liberty sketch from France was a gift for the freedom of slaves. History in America is not going to tell that truth. If you ever visit the statue of liberty, there is a picture of the original.

The one on the left isn't in France, it's in St. Maarten. It has literally nothing to do with the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.

This here is Bartholdi's own design for the statue before construction on it began.

The myth of the Statue of Liberty's black original has been investigated and debunked.

Nope sorry, you should really fact check because while there are rumors based on what you're trying to say, extensive research has been done by notable and varied historians trying to prove if there is any truth to the rumors of the Statue of Liberty being intended as a piece on slavery and to date, no supporting evidence has been found. There is not actually a photo of another statue stating the "true intentions" there are however photos and brief histories of each of the other two 'Lady Liberties' that are located in France. (Swan Ally Island in the Seine River in Paris and also Paris' Luxembourg Gardens) The inscription on the plaque located on the Statue in New York Harbor says,
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-lost to me."

This is an excerpt from a poem written by Emma Lazarus titled "The New Colossus".

That proves nothing...there are so called "notable" historians that continue to clam a lot of things that are not true. It is what it is, I believe what I do and you the same. It's pointless for us to have this conversation

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. No one is entitled to be wrong about the facts.

as an american who has been to the statue of liberty, i can assure you that you are full of ****

Apparently it is pointless because you appear to be one of those people who only believes in something when there is absolutely no proof whatsoever in the truth of it. However, I am not a troll and will simply agree to disagree.
