Imo, Liberty City is the most monotone, boring map I've played. Just the same city with almost no variation, no nature. Pretty closed world if you compare it to San Andreas. And don't get me started on all the fun **** they could have had by not putting a fence here and there.

I never saw why everybody worshipped GTA IV like they did, but hopefully GTA V will make people understand just how boring Liberty City were.

Just dropping in to defend GTA IV.

Let me start by saying that, I agree a significant portion of what you have said. Liberty City was pretty grey, and didn't vary too much, and they forgot to add cheats. It definitely could have been more fun. But I'm going to break away from that right now.

You see, I believe that part of the reason it was a little more boring was because Rockstar decided to go for a more realistic approach. The new physics engine was brilliantly good; GTA IV has some of the best ragdolling I've ever seen in a game. And because they grounded their creation in a newfound realism, wonderful, wonderful things happened to the narrative and storyline. I felt a lot more emotion and drive than in any previous GTA game, because it was more immersive.

However, Rockstar couldn't make it fun without sacrificing this, because they simply had never done it before on this scale. They needed practice.

TL;DR - There's a good reason GTA IV was less fun than it could've been, and it's a worthwhile one.

Thanks, and I hope you consider all that I've said.

I didn't like GTA IV simply because it had a pretty dark atmosphere and it was way too serious for my taste. The story and everything else in Liberty City gave a good satirical view of todays american society, but Vice City and San Andreas were full of humor and way more "goofy", and that was something that was missing in IV imo.

Forgot to add cheats? There were tons of cheats in IV. You activated them by calling numbers on the phone.

aalexwtf got the nail right on the head. I used cheats in GTA IV all the time, but they weren't very good compared to in previous games. My bad for not being 100% literal.

I think he meant that the cheats were not as many nor funny as in San Andreas.
Cheats like flying cars or people going mad with guns and **** , i just miss that in the GTA IV
